Lucy Mouse Captures Her Fears, a Children's Story
by Nancy Quinn Sounds of giggles floated through the air and Lucy Mouse peeked through the basement window of the little white church where she lived with her family behind the ornament box. Her friend Missy Mouse stopped by and invited her to go swimming at the little pond in the park near her home, and Lucy said she could come after her chores were finished. She scratched a tickle on her long, gray nose as she looked longingly at all her friends jumping into the pond and splashing each other. "Lucy, why don't you go to the pond now? You can finish cleaning your room later." Mom said as she passed by Lucy's room. Lucy thanked her mom and picked up her beach towel. Her mom knew she was a little afraid of the water, so she opened her Bible and read 2 Timothy 1:7 "God didn't give us a spirit that makes us weak or fearful. He gave us a spirit that gives us power and love." Lucy and her mom prayed together that Lucy wouldn't be afraid of the water anymore, and that the Lord would give her a brave spirit. Lucy's mom gave her a hug, and Lucy slowly walked to the pond, her big pink bow that matched her swimsuit bobbing on the top of her head. Lucy waved to her friends and hesitantly came to the edge of the pond. She sat down in the grass and let her feet dangle in the cool water. She closed her eyes and repeated the Bible verse and said a quick prayer. When Lucy opened her eyes, she got a happy feeling and knew God was with her and had heard her prayer. She swung her feet back and forth and watched the water swirl in little waves around her feet. She tentatively sat closer to the end of the pond and then suddenly confidently stood up in the water. The mud squished between her toes and she caught the colorful beach ball that Missy Mouse tossed to her. Lucy Mouse played catch with her friends and then Missy offered to teach her to paddle her paws and swish her long tail to steer through the cool water. Lucy grinned as she followed Missy's instructions, holding her nose and whiskers above the water. She was glad God had helped her to not be afraid anymore. She knew she would have missed out on a lot of fun with her friends this summer if she had listened to her fears instead of God. Just then, Missy splashed Lucy and she laughed this was going to be a great day at the pond! Have you ever been afraid? If you're ever afraid, you can just pray to God to help you be brave and know that when you ask Jesus in your heart to be your best friend, He promises to NEVER leave you. He will help you be brave and stay right beside you no matter what! If you'd like to ask Jesus to be your best friend and Savior like Lucy Mouse did, you can just pray the following prayer. Did you know that Jesus loves you? You don't ever have to be afraid when you know Jesus is in your heart. God loves you very much! Dear God, I know I am a sinner. Please forgive me. I believe that Jesus died for me on the cross and that He arose from the grave so that I can live with Him in Heaven someday. I am now trusting Jesus as my Savior. Thank you for loving me and saving me. Amen. May God bless these words as I strive to encourage others in their walk with Christ.
