Lucy Mouse Does Her Best, a Children's Story
by Nancy Quinn The tiny pebble bounced off the golden leaf and made a tiny ripple in the pond. "Your turn." Said Lucy Mouse and she handed Moose Mouse a black pebble. The friends were enjoying an afternoon at the little pond in the park by Lucy Mouse's home. Lucy and her family lived in the basement of a little white church behind the Christmas ornament box. Chris the Koi fish swooped to the bottom of the pond and gathered the pebbles for the friends. Chris took his turn next and the little pebble balanced perfectly in the middle of the floating leaf. Lucy waited patiently for her turn as she chose a perfectly shiny round pebble. She eyed the leaf and brushed her drooping pink bow out of her hair. Taking careful aim, she tossed the pebble and it plopped into the water just short of the edge of the leaf. Lucy and Moose sat in the soft green grass at the pond's edge to rest. It was a sunny Sunday afternoon and they told Chris the Koi fish what they learned that morning in Sunday school. Their Sunday school teacher Miss Daisy taught them about trying to do their best every day. She reminded them that Jesus knows that we aren't perfect, but He wants us to aim to do our best to obey Him. And when we do miss the mark and sin, we should pray and admit that we sinned and God will forgive us. "Hey, we sometimes missed the mark with our game today, didn't we?" said Chris the Koi and they all laughed. Lucy Mouse did her best playing the game and sometimes missed hitting the leaves. But just like she was with her friends and they didn't make fun of her when she missed, Jesus is Lucy's friend and forgives her when she makes mistakes too. Lucy Mouse always remembers to pray before she goes to bed and asks Jesus to forgive her for anything she did that day that made Jesus sad. And she asks Jesus to help her do better the next day. Do you do your best every day like Lucy Mouse and her friends do? Lucy prays and reads her Bible, and she learns more about following Jesus when she goes to Sunday school and church. If you never asked Jesus to be your best friend like Lucy and her friends did, you can just pray the below prayer and Jesus will come into your heart. And He promises to never leave you; He will ALWAYS be your friend. God loves you very much! Dear God, I know I am a sinner. Please forgive me. I believe that Jesus died for me on the cross and that He arose from the grave so that I can live with Him in Heaven someday. I am now trusting Jesus as my Savior. Thank you for loving me and saving me. Amen. I John 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." May God bless these words as I strive to encourage others in their walk with Christ.
