Cliffside Chains
by Sara Harricharan It is calling me again. I won't go. I won't. Yet I know I will. I must not give into this freedom. I want so badly to be free of my life, the monotony, the darkness and few moments of sanity. The shore cliffs are calling me. Wrapping their chains of promise and hope around my ankles. I am a prisoner to their mercy. When I stand atop them, I feel the power they have. I could throw my life away, by jumping off the edge. I could live another day, by sitting on the edge. These chains I cannot see, bind me together, tightly. They refuse to let me go, to rush ahead for a status quo. They are the weight that reminds me still, grounding me in God, of my own free will. I've given Him the keys. I know they'll be safe. Tomorrow I'll look for His smile at daybreak.
