V for Victory!

V for Victory!

We salute present and past members of our armed forces on this Veteran’s Day. These dedicated men and women have done mighty exploits in heroic bravery.

King David humbly expressed his appreciation to three of his mighty men. Three sacrificed their lives behind battle lines to fetch him refreshing water. (2 Samuel 23:13-17)

He refused to drink it. "David said, 'LORD, I would never do such a thing! Is this not the blood of men who risked their lives (2 Samuel 23:17a HCSB)?"

Some heroes lose their lives in foreign wars and are remembered on Memorial Day; others lose them back at home.

These Veterans signed their names on the line; pledged their allegiance to America and promised to protect our constitution. Through service; they secured victory for the oppressed on foreign lands. Sadly, they have suffered defeat upon their return to the homeland.

Suffering mental torment they vainly seek victory over never ending flash backs and emotional battles with alcohol or drugs. Tragically, too many of our heroes lives are snuffed out through suicide. They had not taken advantage of available counseling and support of other veterans.

Do we know; do we care?

Christ cares. He has the power to bring victory in any battles we face. He has already secured victory over death.

“When this corruptible is clothed
with incorruptibility,
and this mortal is clothed
with immortality,
then the saying that is written will take place:
Death has been swallowed up in victory.
Death, where is your victory?
Death, where is your sting?
Now the sting of death is sin,
and the power of sin is the law.
But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:54-57 HCSB).”
