SOUL DANCE (excerpt): How a Snowball Got Us Out of Debt!
by Tonja Taylor

But Jesus said to the woman, Your faith has saved you; go (enter) into peace [in freedom from all the distresses that are experienced as the result of sin]. - Luke 7:50, AMPC

It takes courage to make changes.

The LORD helps us to realize and overcome our fears, including overcoming and annihilating debt from our lives!

And, big progress and finally, freedom, can start with something as small as a "snowball."

No, I don't mean snow packed into a round shape. What I mean is to use the "snowball method," like my husband and many others successfully have, to eliminate debt!

We are on a journey, and often, getting out of debt is a journey as well.

But you can start small, with a little "snowball," that will grow bigger and bigger--like a real one, rolling down a mountain, collecting snow as it travels, and even becoming a huge snow-boulder that can smash things in its path!

So, it's simple, really: Ask the LORD for courage and wisdom to get started. It is important to pray with your spouse, or, if your spouse won't, at least to discuss this matter with them. Perhaps they don't want to, but you can trust God to help you do this.

It requires discipline to get started and stay faithful to do this, but it's so worth it: Take the minimum payment on your credit card (or loan) that has the lowest balance, and add a few dollars, or more if you can, to the payment.

Keep paying the minimum payment plus as much as you can faithfully (and STOP using the credit card. The LORD will help you with that, if you ask Him, and listen for and obey His wisdom. He may tell you to start tithing if you're not, or give a financial or service or material offering to a ministry or individual, or stop doing a certain activity....Seek Him. He is for you and will help you!).

Pray over your payments, and declare favor in the Name of Jesus with the company. You may get a nice surprise; they may agree to reduce the amount you owe!

With God, anything is possible! He loves you and wants you out of debt! He is a good, good Father, and will help you!

Then, once that wonderful day comes when you owe NOTHING on that credit card or other loan that had the smallest balance, take that same amount of money that you were paying, and add it to what you were paying on the credit card bill or other loan that has the next highest balance.

In other words, you pay off the bill you owe the least on first, then go up from there, while still paying on the other bills, so you don't get behind, or more behind.

Remember to ask the LORD for grace and favor with the companies to which you owe money!

When you pay off the bill with the lowest balance, you may still have bills--but you will have accomplished a goal, and will be MORE FREE financially! Keep doing this with all your bills, and you will probably be surprised at how much better you feel about yourself, and how much faster these bills will be paid off than you thought!

Remember to celebrate every step, and praise and thank the LORD for His goodness and mercy and faithfulness to you. He will be with you always, helping you in every way. He is good, and His mercy endures forever!

The Lord is God, Who has shown and given us light [He has illuminated us with grace, freedom, and joy]. Decorate the festival with leafy boughs and bind the sacrifices to be offered with thick cords [all over the priest’s court, right up] to the horns of the altar. - Psalm 118:27, AMPC
