Talk is Cheap
by PamFord Davis

Some scrimp and save in order to make a large purchase of an automobile or first home. It’s far from easy. First, they must cut back on expenditures. That will mean making sacrifices.

Flippantly, many say they’d do anything for someone they hold dear. Rarely are those promises fulfilled. How willing are we to actually sacrifice our time, possessions and personal safety?

Ask Peter.

“Then Jesus said to them, “You will all fall away because of Me this night, for it is written: ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ But after I have been raised, I will go ahead of you to Galilee.’ But Peter replied to Him, Even if they all fall away because of You, I will never fall away!’ Jesus said to him, ‘Truly I say to you that this very night, before a rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.’ Peter said to Him, ‘Even if I have to die with You, I will not deny You!’ All the disciples said the same thing as well (Matthew 26:31-35 NASB).”

Talk is cheap.

The ultimate sacrifice cost Jesus His life.

There is no greater love.

"Greater love has no one than this, that a person will lay down his life for his friends (John 15:13 NASB)."

Jesus’ heart of love and sacrificial death were as one.

“For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it back.  No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it back. This commandment I received from My Father (John 10:17-18 NASB).”

Sacrifice is costly.
