God's Acts of Love
by Samuel Akinola God has demonstrated His love or love as His nature over and over again in the Holy Bible. He has not changed ever since; He is still demonstrating His love for us over and over again in our contemporary lives. The first act of God’s love for us, humans is demonstrated in the story of creation. In Genesis 1:27-28, NIV, “So God created mankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” Humans, or rather modern humans in scientific terms are mirrors of God’s image, CREATED in God’s image. God created a male and a female and blessed them. He started the human race through this act of love, for them to be fruitful and blessed. He did not just stop at that but also gave them dominium over other living creature that lives on earth. ‘Every living creature’ according to the Bible points to the fact that different creatures of God dwelled on earth at the time of creating humans in His OWN image; these creatures were unique in their own right they did not evolve into modern humans as the science of evolution would have so many scientists believed. Modern humans (you and I) were created to look like God, His image, and He created them male and female. He set the science of reproduction (birth) in motion by declaring them to ‘be fruitful and increase in number’. Now, when and how God created humans is left to us to speculate, the Bible did not touch on the issue of the date of creation but rather demonstrates this love of God by creating us to look like him. So, yes, we are unique and wonderfully made, there is no mistake in the sex (male & female). Every birth after that is the work of God, there is no birth by mistake in God’s calendar; even unplanned pregnancy in human terms did not escape God—there is a purpose for it in His divine love. God also demonstrated His love in the life of Job according to the Bible. Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.” Job 1:8, NIV. The most unique part of this story of Job in the Bible is the fact that God HAD FAITH in him—a mere human! God believes in Job, God ‘TRUSTED JOB’ will not let Him down. Trust is an act of love and God demonstrated this exceptionally. Job did not disappoint God, though he faced upheaval of troubles and evils almost to the point of death. At the end of his trials, the Bible says, “The Lord blessed the latter part of Job’s life more than the former part. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys. And he also had seven sons and three daughters. Nowhere in all the land were there found women as beautiful as Job’s daughters, and their father granted them an inheritance along with their brothers.” Job 42:12-15, NIV. This is a beautiful story of death, faith, trials, temptations, love and victory, wrapped together as a testimony of God’s uniqueness. The story of David in the Bible is also an example of God’s unwavering love. He was anointed as king while still a shepherd and set on a long journey to prove himself as a man after God’s heart through his life and deeds. God loved him dearly, even he fell to the sin of murder and adultery God’s love forgave him, helped him through the terrible consequences of his sin and set him back on the throne of the kingdom of Israel. We are part of God’s plan, He has a plan for everyone, and no one is useless to Him except that person who makes himself or herself useless by shunning His love and clinging to the path of destruction. “You saw me before I was born. The days allotted to me had all been recorded in your book before any of them ever began.” Psalm 139:16, GNT. God’s act of love is recorded through His declaration in the book of Jeremiah 29:11, “I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for.” GNT. This is a beautiful declaration that demonstrates God’s love for us. God does not bring misfortune on anyone, misfortune is part of the corrupt nature of the world we live in, which can result from the choices people make and their intended or unintended consequences. Nevertheless, if you key into His promises, hold unto his promises, and be steadfast in your relationship with Him you will enjoy His divine plans for you. Many, many things can go wrong to thwart His divine plans for you if you are not careful to live in line with His will. So, yes, the journey of life is not smooth sailing at all, there are obstacles at every turn to derail you from God’s plan. You have to take your relationship with God through Christ Jesus very, very seriously. God has given us the power to make our own choices, even though His plans for you are good, the choices that you make can thwart those wonderful plans He has for you. God’s ultimate love for humans is demonstrated in the person of Jesus Christ. “For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life.” John 3:16, GNT. The gift of salvation Jesus brought to the world is the expression of God’s love, demonstrated over and over again in Christ’s teachings, which eventually culminated in his death and resurrection. There is no greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for the salvation of the human race.
