Roots And Fruits (part 4)
by Olawale Ogunsola There are many people in this world today who claim to be followers of Jesus Christ but love to live their lives independent of Him. Should this be so? No! It should not! Is it possible? No, it is not. The Lord Jesus Christ makes it categorical thus in the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John in chapter fifteen, He is the Tree that is connected to the roots of life. He is the One Who carries the branches so that they may not only survive but bear fruits abundantly. This is the portion of a disciple who remains well connected to Him. Any disciple who fails to rely totally on Him as Bearer of the branches has his portion as well. What can this be? The Lord Himself declares in verse six of the same Chapter of the book of John, saying, "[6]If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned." Who will want to end up in Hell after this life? Hell is real! It is not a comfortable place for anyone. Hardship in this world does not make a man comfortable. How much more when a man loses his bearing with the Source of all comfort? Destruction is his portion. May you not miss the point in the name of Jesus Christ. In verse seven of the same chapter, He discloses the "procedure" like this: In other words, every branch that remains permanently in the vine will have unrestricted access to all its parts from the right source that can never run dry. Beloved, are you still in Christ? Are you well rooted in Him and His commandments? Examine yourself and make the necessary changes. May you be satisfied with all your needs as you remain steadfast in Christ in Jesus' mighty name.
