Hannah Made a Vow
by PamFord Davis

Hannah made a vow.

“She, greatly distressed, prayed to the Lord and wept bitterly. And she made a vow and said, ‘Lord of armies, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your bond-servant and remember me, and not forget Your bond-servant, but will give Your bond-servant a son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and a razor shall never come on his head (1 Samuel 1:10-11 NASB).”

God heard her heart; Hannah conceived.

The mother’s time of sacrifice came.

Hannah gave her son Samuel back to the LORD. He began to serve in the Temple.

“For this boy I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my request which I asked of Him. So I have also dedicated him to the Lord; as long as he lives he is dedicated to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there (1 Samuel 1:27-28 NASB).”

Though Hannah’s sacrifice was great; God’s was far greater.

“But when the fullness of the time came, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons and daughters (Galatians 4:4-5 NASB).”

God gave His only Son.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16 NASB).”
