*PART 1: REASONS WHY THERE IS ZERO OR LOW SANCTIFICATION IN THE CHURCH, ESPECIALLY AMONG LEADERSHIP*

*LESSON 4c: Reason 4: HYPOCRISY — (CONT'D)*

*4. HYPOCRITES SHOULD BE CORRECTED, REBUKED OR DISCIPLINED OPENLY (PUBLICLY)*

*(iii) JESUS REBUKED THE SCRIBES AND PHARISEES PUBLICLY*

Matthew 23:1,13-16,23,25,27,29 KJV
*1 THEN SPAKE JESUS TO THE MULTITUDE, AND TO HIS DISCIPLES, [13] BUT WOE UNTO YOU, SCRIBES AND PHARISEES, HYPOCRITES! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. [14] WOE UNTO YOU, SCRIBES AND PHARISEES, HYPOCRITES! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation. [15] WOE UNTO YOU, SCRIBES AND PHARISEES, HYPOCRITES! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves. [16] WOE UNTO YOU, YE BLIND GUIDES, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor! [23] WOE UNTO YOU, SCRIBES AND PHARISEES, HYPOCRITES! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. [25] WOE UNTO YOU, SCRIBES AND PHARISEES, HYPOCRITES! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess. [27] WOE UNTO YOU, SCRIBES AND PHARISEES, HYPOCRITES! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness. [29] WOE UNTO YOU, SCRIBES AND PHARISEES, HYPOCRITES! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,*

Jesus heaped woes upon the scribes and Pharisees publicly because they were a bunch of hypocrites or pretenders!

He didn't do it secretly or privately.

In verse 1 above, you will notice that He was speaking to the crowd and his disciples.

*THEN SPAKE JESUS TO THE MULTITUDE, AND TO HIS DISCIPLES* (Matthew 23:1 KJV).

So, hypocrites should be rebuked, corrected, challenged or disciplined publicly.

It's noteworthy that rebuking or addressing faults of people who are not hypocrites or pretenders publicly is gossip, which is a sin (see Matthew 18:15-17)!

The Lord rebukes people privately or publicly because He loves them, and He wants them to repent or change;
not because He hates them. God is love!

Jesus said: *Those whom I LOVE I REBUKE and DISCIPLINE. So BE EARNEST, and REPENT.* Revelation 3:19 NIV.

Let's see this verse above in the Amplified Bible: *Those whom I [dearly and tenderly] LOVE, I TELL THEIR FAULTS and CONVICT and CONVINCE and REPROVE and CHASTEN [I DISCIPLINE and INSTRUCT them]. So be ENTHUSIASTIC and IN EARNEST and BURNING WITH ZEAL and REPENT [changing your mind and attitude].* (Rev.3.19).

*WARNING: REBUKE NOT AN ELDER, BUT ENTREAT AND PLEAD WITH HIM AS A FATHER!*

1 Timothy 5:1 KJV
*REBUKE NOT AN ELDER, BUT INTREAT HIM AS A FATHER;* and the younger men as brethren;

1Tim.5.1 AMP
*DO NOT SHARPLY CENSURE OR REBUKE AN OLDER MAN, BUT ENTREAT AND PLEAD WITH HIM AS [YOU WOULD WITH] A FATHER.* Treat younger men like brothers;

1Tim.5.1 NLT
*NEVER SPEAK HARSHLY TO AN OLDER MAN, BUT APPEAL TO HIM RESPECTFULLY AS THOUGH HE WERE YOUR OWN FATHER. Talk to the younger men as you would to your own brothers.*

1Tim.5.1 MSG
*DON'T BE HARSH OR IMPATIENT WITH AN OLDER MAN. TALK TO HIM AS YOU WOULD YOUR OWN FATHER,* and to the younger men as your brothers.

It seems to me that this was the error of our beloved man of God, Sunday Adelaja. That wonderful man is a history changer!

I have no doubt that the Lord Jesus appeared or came to him and told him to address some issues in the Nigerian Church.

But, two wrongs cannot make a right. We cannot correct error with error! We only worsen error with error!

Unfortunately, his manner of approach to some of those issues was totally an extreme and damaging!

He did a good job on the one hand, whereas, he did more harm than good on the other hand!

He rebuked his fathers in the faith in the Nigerian Church, though, he exposed some impostors and their falsehood!

1 John 4:6 KJV
We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. *Hereby know we THE SPIRIT OF TRUTH, and THE SPIRIT OF ERROR.*

In actuality, he unknowingly opened the door to the accuser of the brethren and broke his hedge or defense.

Ecclesiastes 10:8 KJV
*HE THAT DIGGETH A PIT SHALL FALL INTO IT; AND WHOSO BREAKETH AN HEDGE, A SERPENT SHALL BITE HIM.*

Ephesians 4:27,29-31 KJV
*NEITHER GIVE PLACE TO THE DEVIL. [29] LET NO CORRUPT COMMUNICATION PROCEED OUT OF YOUR MOUTH, BUT THAT WHICH IS GOOD TO THE USE OF EDIFYING, THAT IT MAY MINISTER GRACE UNTO THE HEARERS. [30] And GRIEVE NOT THE HOLY SPIRIT OF GOD, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. [31] Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and EVIL SPEAKING, be put away from you, with ALL MALICE:*

Proverbs 21:23 KJV
*Whoso KEEPETH his MOUTH and his TONGUE KEEPETH his SOUL from TROUBLES.*

Although, I am not insinuating that the disaster that befell him and his followers in Ukraine is linked to this historic error, yet I am sure it's most probably not totally disconnected from it!

A prophetess was telling me the other day that she believes that Adelaja's error in tackling (some) Church leaders in Nigeria is the cause of his misfortune in Ukraine. (God knows best!)

Very importantly, the same prophetess had told me about 2 years ago when she watched one or more of his videos on Church leaders in Nigeria that the Lord told her that He actually told Adelaja to address some issues in the Nigerian Church, but that that was not how He told him to go about it!

You see, I believe he's a great messenger and watchman who was instrumental in the Orange Revolution that changed Ukraine for good!

[In fact, I strongly recommend his powerful book: CHURCHSHIFT to all Christians and Christian leaders].

But, how did the devil snatch that nation back from under his nose?

Did he leave his duty post? Was he distracted by and pre-occupied with something else to the detriment of national transformation and preservation?

When men slept, an enemy has done this.

Matthew 13:25 KJV
*But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.*

It is my firm belief that the grace of God upon him and Church he led was strong enough to have averted that war in Ukraine.

In 2 Chronicles 20, God gave His people victory in battle without their having to fight their enemies physically. The opponents wasted one another as God's people praised Him!

*... for the BATTLE is not yours, but God's* (See 2 Chronicles 20:15, KJV).

In Church history, Charles G. Finney prayed down revival that prevented or averted war.

He and some of his acolytes were busy trying to tear down ministers, ministries and Churches (both genuine and false ones) in Nigeria, when Satan sneaked upon them to tear down their defense.

Paul wrote: *... the authority the Lord gave me for BUILDING you UP, NOT for TEARING you DOWN* 2 Cor 13:10b NIV.

I have learnt a lot from this anointed man of God from Nigeria, but, I pray that God will restore his spiritual loss as well as physical loss in Jesus' name. Let's keep praying for them all.

*BALANCING THE TRUTH!*

1Tim.5.19-21 NLT
*19 Do not listen to complaints against an elder unless there are two or three witnesses to accuse him. 20 Anyone who sins should be REBUKED IN FRONT OF THE WHOLE CHURCH so that others will have a proper fear of God. 21 I solemnly command you in the presence of God and Christ Jesus and the holy angels to obey these instructions without taking sides or showing special favor to anyone.*

1Tim.5.19-21 NIV
*19 Do not entertain an accusation against an elder unless it is brought by two or three witnesses. 20 Those who sin are to be REBUKED PUBLICLY, so that the others may take warning. 21 I charge you, in the sight of God and Christ Jesus and the elect angels, to keep these instructions without partiality, and to do nothing out of favoritism.*

1Tim.5.19-21 AMP
*19 Listen to no accusation [presented before a judge] against an elder unless it is confirmed by the testimony of two or three witnesses. 20 As for those who are guilty and persist in sin, REBUKE AND ADMONISH THEM IN THE PRESENCE OF ALL, so that the rest may be warned and stand in wholesome awe and fear. 21 I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus and of the chosen angels that you guard and keep [these rules] without personal prejudice or favor, doing nothing from partiality.*

Earlier in verse 1, Paul commanded Timo by God's Spirit not to rebuke an elder (an old person or a pastoral figure).

But then, in verses 19-20, he balanced it that he should rebuke an elder publicly under the following conditions:

1. If he sins (1Tim.5.20)

2. If two or three witnesses testifies against him (1Tim.5.19)

3. If he's under Timothy's leadership authority (as inferred by the context)

*A WORD TO (DR) SUNDAY ADELAJA: NEITHER ASSAULT NOR MISTREAT YOUR FATHERS!*

Proverbs 19:26-29 KJV
*He that WASTETH (ASSAULTS OR MISTREATS) HIS FATHER, and chaseth away his mother, IS A SON THAT CAUSETH SHAME, and BRINGETH REPROACH. [27] Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge. [28] An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity. [29] Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.*

The superscription in my Bible App explains
*"wasteth"* as *"assaults or mistreats."*

And *"assault"* means *"to make a violent physical or verbal attack on someone,"* while *"mistreat"* means *"to treat someone wrongly, badly or unfairly."*

So, that verse is saying neither make a violent physical or verbal attack on your father nor treat him wrongly, badly or unfairly.

Don't bite the hand that fed you. Don't scorn the breasts that you sucked. Don't throw dirts into the stream you drank from.

I sincerely appeal to you, dear man of God, to desist from attacking verbally or mistreating your fathers or the father figures in the Body of Christ in Nigeria.

Apologize where necessary. Deal with issues, not personalities.

This is not a rebuke. I am not qualified to rebuke you.

You are a role model. But, we can only follow you as far as you follow Christ.

1 Corinthians 11:1 KJV
*Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.*

Also, we reap what we sow. If we sow attacks, we reap attacks. If we sow mercy, we reap mercy.

Galatians 6:7 KJV
*Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.*

Proverbs 26:27 KJV
*Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him.*

Ecclesiastes 10:8 KJV
*He that diggeth a pit shall fall into it; and whoso breaketh an hedge, a serpent shall bite him.*

*SINNER'S CONFESSION*

If you want to become a child of God now, then say this confession:
"I choose to repent today. Also I choose to believe that Jesus died for my sins and rose up for my justification. The scripture says, "If you confess with you mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9). Therefore, I believe in Jesus with my heart and confess him as my Lord. Now, I am born- again (Amen)."

*PRAYER FOR HEALING & DELIVERANCE*

So put your hand on the part of your body that needs healing. Also on your chest for inner healing of your spirit or soul. You can also do it on behalf of your loved ones.

Now in the mighty name of Jesus, be healed of cancer, HIV/AIDS, barrenness, insanity, lameness, blindness, deafness, dumbness, fibroid, tumour, broken bone, hypertension, epilepsy, kidney failure, liver failure, weak heart, leprosy, emotional crisis, failed marriages, failed ministries, failed businesses, academic failure, broken heart, depression, wounded conscience, and all manners of sicknesses and diseases.

In the name of Jesus, I command your total deliverance from generational or family curses, spirit of death, bondages, and so on.

Be healed in Jesus' name! Be healed in Jesus' name! Be healed in Jesus' name!

*SAY THIS ALOUD TO RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT*

Also Jesus said, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you and you will be my witnesses…” (Acts 1:8).

And on the day of Pentecost  “All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance” (Acts 2:4).

Therefore, I receive the Holy Spirit by faith right now and I begin to speak in an unknown tongue (unlearned tongue) as He gives me the utterance.

I command every foul spirit [spirit of fear, spirit of unbelief, spirit of doubt, religious spirit, unforgiving spirit…] wanting to hinder me to stop in its evil operation in my life in Jesus’ name.

Thank you God for filling me with your Spirit in Jesus’ name (Amen).
