Silencing the Roaring Lion
by Ken Barnes

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. (1 Peter 5:8 NIV)

The roaring of the lion is being heard loud and clear on our college campuses. The only thing that will silence our enemy is prayer and spiritual warfare, in word and deed. Otherwise, the devil may devour a whole generation of future leaders.

The anarchy we see in our major universities is the result of many years of indoctrination by so-called intellectuals or woke curriculum. We have taught them what to think rather than how to think. Someone once said, "A mind is not something to fill but a fire to be kindled." Young people in this generation, as is true in all eras, are looking for something in which to believe. The liberal professors filled this void. Yes, indoctrination is based on false assumptions, but if you tell a lie long and loud enough, people will start to believe it and kindle a fire in those who hear it. The devil is well on capturing the minds and hearts of the emerging generation.

In nature, there is an equal but opposite reaction for every action. We are seeing hatred and lawlessness in our streets, expressed in anti-Israel rhetoric and actions. The battle is spiritual, where darkness is trying to dispel the light, falsehood is shrouding the truth, and evil is masquerading as good. So, for the people of God, what must our reaction be? I suggest that it starts with prayer and spiritual warfare. "For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places" (Ephesians 6:12 NLT)

Unless we address the problem at the source, authorities in the unseen world, we can win earthly battles and lose the war. Unless we use the sword of the Spirit, our offensive weapon, in prayer and public declaration, the unimaginable will become commonplace, and the unacceptable will become acceptable in this nation and world. Let's make a clarion call to battle in the place of prayer. If we do, light will dispel the darkness, truth will expose falsehood, good will unmask evil, and we will silence the roaring lion.
