Valley Dwellers
by PamFord Davis

Our lives are a series of emotional mountain top and valley experiences. Physically, mountain climbers sometimes feel lightheaded in high altitudes but they don’t panic; determined, they continue to climb. Reaching their goal, they view the horizon and commune with God; creator of mountains and valleys.

Emotionally, our feelings are both high and low.

King David experienced both exaltation and humiliation. As King of Israel, David ruled from a stately throne; yet, Absalom (one of his sons) seized that throne. In danger, David made a short climb up to the Mount of Olives.

“And David was going up the ascent of the Mount of Olives, weeping as he went, and his head was covered, and he was walking barefoot. Then all the people who were with him each covered his own head, and they were going up, weeping as they went (2 Samuel 15:30 NASB).”

It’s said that ‘what goes up must come down’… God speaks through our descents; down rocky cliffs and into the land of valley dwellers.

LORD, open my eyes to see the needs of those around me. Many have never looked above to You and abundant life.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came so that they would have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10 NASB).”
