Greatest Reward
by PamFord Davis

‘Whistle while you work!’

The Christian life is not easy; it’s worth every effort.

Epps Baptist youth have made a commitment to please the Lord. Using the word ‘whatever’ they pledge to serve the Lord in whatever they do. Recently, they challenged our adults to consider this in our daily routines. It’s much more than a thought to ponder. Realizing that every work has significance is reason enough to be enthused. To learn that whatever we do is for the Lord is life changing!

Many slave away at 9-5 jobs they hate. Work doesn’t have to be drudgery. Apostle Paul believed that he was a slave to Christ. “Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle and singled out for God’s good news— which He promised long ago through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures (Romans 1:1-2 HCSB).”

Christ followers are called to a work of submissive service.

“Slaves, obey your human masters in everything. Don’t work only while being watched, in order to please men, but work wholeheartedly, fearing the Lord.
Whatever (*my emphasis) you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men, knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord. You serve the Lord Christ (Colossians 3:22-24 HSCB).”

Serving the Lord is a privilege. Pleasing Him is our greatest reward.
