Thought: God answers prayer three ways, yes, no and wait. Sometimes it’s not the answer we’d like to hear. The most difficult one is wait. I just went through a health crisis that put me in that wait period. What are the lessons God wants to teach us during this time?
- We learn to trust in his sovereignty. He sees the picture of our life complete, from beginning to end and always knows what’s best for us. Heb. 12:7 LB “Let God train you for he is doing what any loving father does for his children.”
- When we pray our focus is on our Heavenly Father without outside distractions. He has our attention. Prov. 3:6,7,8 LB “In everything you do put God first and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success. Don’t be conceited, sure of your own wisdom. Instead, trust and reverence the Lord and turn your back on evil; when you do that you will be given renewed health and vitality.”
- Stand in awe of God, creator of all things, who holds everything in perfect order. Col. 1:15-19 LB “Christ is the exact likeness of the unseen God. He existed before God made anything at all, and in fact, Christ himself is the Creator who made everything in heaven and earth, the things we can see and the thing we can’t; the spirit world with it’s kings and kingdoms, it’s rulers and authorities; all were made by Christ for his own use and glory. He was before all else began and it is his power that holds everything together. He is the Head of his body made up of his people—that is, his church—which he began; and he is the leader of all those who arise from the dead, so that he is first in everything; for God wanted all of himself to be in his Son.”
- Jesus is the peace giver and comforter. Phill. 4:6,7 LB “Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything; tell God your needs and don’t forget to thank him for his answers. If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus.”
- He has a plan for you. Psalms 139:16 LB “You saw me before I was born and scheduled each day of my life before I began to breathe. Every day was recorded in your Book.”
Whatever you’re going through right now whether it be health, financial, family, etc. he promises to never leave you alone. Phill. 4:12,13 LB “I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of contentment in every situation, whether it be a full stomach or hunger, plenty or want; for I can do everything God asks me to with the help of Christ who gives me the strength and power.”
Prayer: Father God, thank you for the promise that you will never leave us alone. That you are the giver of peace and comfort as we trust in your sovereignty. Amen
Verse: Rom. 8:28 LB “And we know that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into his plans.” Phill. 1:19 LB “I am going to keep on being glad, for I know that as you pray for me and as the Holy Spirit helps me, this is all going to turn out for my good.”
