Some weeks ago, we considered the first reason out of the 7 reasons why every believer should pay their tithes. The following week, we looked at the second reason. Then, we dwelt on the third reason. Later on, we dealt with the fourth reason. After that, we looked at the first part of the fifth reason. Next, we continued with the second segment of the fifth reason. Later, we completed the fifth reason with its third segment. Subsequently, we looked at the sixth reason. Now, God willing, we want to deal with the seventh reason. That first reason mentioned was — *REASON 1: TITHES STARTED BEFORE THE LAW; WERE EFFECTIVE AND REINFORCED UNDER THE LAW; AND CONTINUES AFTER THE LAW – UNDER GRACE* The second reason was — *REASON 2: TITHES BELONG TO GOD.* The third reason was — *REASON 3: REFUSING TO PAY YOUR FULL TITHES & OFFERINGS TO YOUR LOCAL CHURCH MEANS YOU ARE A THIEF STEALING GOD'S MONEY/RESOURCES* The fourth reason was — The fifth reason was — *REASON 5: THERE ARE GENUINE WITNESSES ESTABLISHING THE TRUTH* The sixth reason was —*REASON 6: THERE ARE PIECES OF EVIDENCE FROM "HEAVEN AND HELL TESTIMONIES" THAT NON-PAYMENT OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS HAS ETERNAL CONSEQUENCES* Now, the seventh reason is: *REASON 7: IT'S A MEANS OF LAYING UP TREASURE IN HEAVEN FOR YOURSELF AGAINST THE TIME TO COME AS WELL AS A MEANS OF HELPING OTHERS AND YOURSELF*
Malachi 1:6-14 NIV Malachi 2:2 NIV Very importantly, Malachi 1 and 2 talks about honouring God with givings before Malachi 3 talks about giving Him tithes and offerings. The reason is that when we give our tithes and offerings without honouring God, then we bring curse (misery and woe) upon ourselves instead of blessing! Even though, God was rebuking priests in Malachi 1 and 2, it was a like-people-like-priests phenomenon because the priests would always influence the people rightly or wrongly. Hosea 4:9 NIV You see, when you give your tithes as leftovers from your income, you dishonour God. Yes, removing your tithes from your income or salary first simply means you are putting God first, which is honouring Him. But, removing your tithes last simply means you are putting God last, which is dishonouring Him. A similar principle applies to your offerings. Also, giving Him torn, worn-out, dog-eared or dirty bank notes speaks of dishonour. It's a shame that we give to God what we cannot give to some executive beggars. We bring to Him what we dare not give to our governor or president. Again, using smelly, dirty, torn or unpresentable envelopes to package your tithes or offerings is dishonour. Worse still, throwing your tithes or offerings to the collection bowl, box or bag as if in anger or using a left hand to drop your tithes or offerings reluctantly or despicably when you are not a left-handed person is dishonour. Proverbs 21:27 KJV Sad to say, when giving tithes and offerings, some believers honour God with their mouths whereas they dishonour Him in their hearts! 1 Samuel 16:7 NLT 1 Samuel 16:7 MSG 1 Samuel 16:7 KJV The bitter truth is that Malachi 3 will never work for you if you don't follow the principles of honour in Malachi 1 and 2. Jesus rebuked the scribes and Pharisees saying: *7 You pretenders (hypocrites)! Admirably and truly did Isaiah prophesy of you when he said: 8 THESE PEOPLE DRAW NEAR ME WITH THEIR MOUTHS and HONOR ME WITH THEIR LIPS, BUT THEIR HEARTS HOLD OFF AND ARE FAR AWAY FROM ME. 9 USELESSLY DO THEY WORSHIP ME, for they teach as doctrines the commands of men. [Isa. 29:13.] (Matthew 15:7-9 AMPC). Such religious folks honour God with their lips, but not with their hearts. Their worship is useless, unacceptable or in vain before God! Worshipping God without reverence (honour) and holy awe (fear) is not acceptable unto Him (see Hebrews 12:28-29). You see, when giving to God, our heart must be right with Him and we must also have the right attitude. 2 Corinthians 9:7 RSV 2 Corinthians 9:7 GNT 2 Corinthians 9:7 BBE 2 Corinthians 9:7 NLT 2 Corinthians 9:7 GodsWord 2 Corinthians 9:7 AMPC
Proverbs 3:9 ESV Proverbs 3:9 NLT Proverbs 3:9 GodsWord Here, Solomon was not saying: *"Give the LORD your wealth and your first fruits."* Rather, he was asking us to honour the LORD with our wealth and the best part of our first fruits. In other words, we are to honour the LORD with a quality portion of our wealth as He demands and directs and with the best part of our first fruits at harvest or at the beginning of a new year or so. That verse implies that we can dishonour the LORD with our wealth as well as with our first fruits when we give him chicken feed or peanuts from our wealth and when we give him the worst part or a fair part of our first fruits. Sadly, some even give Him their last fruits! They put Him last! Friend, if you put God first, then He will put you first; but if you put Him last, then He will put you last! When you receive your salary or income, and you settle school fees, rent, utility bills, feeding, transport fare, and so on first before you remember tithes and offerings, then you are dishonouring God. In the next verse below, Solomon explains the results of honouring God with our wealth and the best part of our first fruits. Proverbs 3:10 NLT How many of you have filled barns and overflowing vats with blessing? Even the widow of Zarephath honoured Elijah by preparing his meal first before their own, and a great miracle followed. 1 Kings 17:8-16 NIV It's very important to honour servants of God; but it's much more important to honour God Himself above all!
1 Samuel 2:27-36 NLT You see, we reap what we sow (see Galatians 6:7). If we sow honour, we will reap honour; but if we sow dishonour, we will reap dishonour. Eli honoured his sons above God. And his sons, in turn, honoured themselves above God. Simply put, Eli and his sons dishonoured God, and as a result, God dishonoured them. The consequences of their dishonouring the Ancient of Days include: (i) termination of their priesthood (verse 31) (ii) premature death (verse 31) (iii) poverty (verse 32) (iv) sadness and grief (verse 33) (v) violent death of their children (verse 33) (vi) Eli's two sons, Hophni and Phinehas dying on the same day (verse 34) (vii) All their descendants bowing before their successors' descendants, begging for money and food by lobbying for the lost priesthood (vs 36)
Actually, God accepted Abel's offering because it was out of honour, but, He rejected Cain's offering because it was without honour (see Genesis 4:1-7, Hebrews 11:4). I'm fully convinced from the Scriptures that paying our tithes and offerings without honouring God will make things difficult or tight for us!
Malachi 3:10 KJV Malachi 3:10 NIV Malachi 3:10 ESV Malachi 3:10 GNT Not paying your tithes correctly will make things difficult for you. For instance, if you are supposed to pay tithe from your gross income, but you decide to pay it from your net income, then you are tithing incorrectly. And this will make things tight or difficult for you. Imagine a believer who should pay $10 as tithe, but because of one reason or another, he reduces it to $5. It's totally wrong and sinful. It will eventually bring him trouble. Paying tithes incorrectly is equivalent to not paying tithes at all because 99 percent obedience is still disobedience before God. God requires your full or complete tithe. You can neither borrow from tithe nor lend it to someone. It's God's money, not yours.
Psalms 119:112 AKJV Paying your tithes for a season and refusing to pay them for another season will make things tight for you. It's not what you pay at your convenience. Imagine a believer who decides not to pay his tithe this month because of some challenges at home or work, but, instead promising God to pay 20 percent the following month. This is sacrifice in disobedience. But, obedience is better than sacrifice. 1 Samuel 15:22 KJV When you are faced with challenges at home or work is the best time to challenge God with your tithe! But, if you walk by sight, and not by faith, then the devil will move you into offending God through disobedience in tithing. 2 Corinthians 5:7 AMPC We must endeavour to pay our tithes always, consistently, faithfully or regularly regardless of the temptations or adversity confronting us. Psalms 119:112 AKJV
