*7 REASONS WHY EVERY BELIEVER SHOULD PAY THEIR TITHES — PART 5a*

*Introduction*

A month ago, we considered the first reason out of the 7 reasons why every believer should pay their tithes.

Three weeks ago, we looked at the second reason.

Two week ago, we dwelt on the third reason.

Then last week, we dealt with the fourth reason.

That first reason mentioned was — *REASON 1: TITHES STARTED BEFORE THE LAW; WERE EFFECTIVE AND REINFORCED UNDER THE LAW; AND CONTINUES AFTER THE LAW – UNDER GRACE*

The second reason was — *REASON 2: TITHES BELONG TO GOD.*

The third reason was — *REASON 3: REFUSING TO PAY YOUR FULL TITHES & OFFERINGS TO YOUR LOCAL CHURCH MEANS YOU ARE A THIEF STEALING GOD'S MONEY/RESOURCES*

The fourth reason was —
*REASON 4. ALL THIEVES, INCLUDING THOSE REFUSING TO PAY TITHES AND OFFERINGS & THOSE PASTORS OR CHURCH LEADERS WHO ARE SITTING ON EVERYTHING WRONGLY AS THEIR OWN WILL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN*

Now, this week, by God's grace, we are looking at the fifth reason, namely:

*REASON 5: THERE ARE GENUINE WITNESSES ESTABLISHING THE TRUTH*

*SECTION 1: WITNESSES FOR THE TRUTH*

2 Corinthians 13:1,8 KJV
[1] This is the third time I am coming to you. *IN THE MOUTH OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES SHALL EVERY WORD BE ESTABLISHED. [8] FOR WE CAN DO NOTHING AGAINST THE TRUTH, BUT FOR THE TRUTH.*

Did you notice this statement above: *[1] ... *IN THE MOUTH OF TWO OR THREE WITNESSES SHALL EVERY WORD BE ESTABLISHED* ?

Did you also notice this: *[8] FOR WE CAN DO NOTHING AGAINST THE TRUTH, BUT FOR THE TRUTH* ?

So, let's see the witnesses that help establish this truth of tithing:

*i. KENNETH E. HAGIN*

2 Chronicles 20:20 KJV
... Jehoshaphat stood and said, Hear me, O Judah, and ye inhabitants of Jerusalem; *BELIEVE IN THE LORD YOUR GOD, SO SHALL YE BE ESTABLISHED; BELIEVE HIS PROPHETS, SO SHALL YE PROSPER.*

Kenneth Ervin Hagin was a prophet and teacher among prophets and teachers.

Yes, he was a prophet of prophets, and a teacher of teachers.

In fact, the Lord Jesus appeared to him in visions 8 times in his lifetime. (It might have been more than that before he died, but I'm sure of those 8 times on record.) And those were life-changing encounters for him and his ministry.

And the impact of his prophetic teachings resulting from some of those encounters are still being felt on earth today.

In chapter 2 of his powerful book: *"THE MINISTRY OF A PROPHET,"* Kenneth shared an inspiring testimony of how the Spirit of God used him supernaturally to minister to a man about tithe.

He admitted that in 1949, a man suffering from stomach trouble came in the healing line to be ministered to.

He was off work for several months and was living on baby diet.

As he ministered to him with the laying on of hands, the Lord revealed to Kenneth supernaturally that his body was afflicted by a demon.

Then in a vision, he saw him lying on a back porch, tossing about on his bed as the Lord dealt with him about paying his tithes. He was a non-tither.

*The secret things belong unto the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.*

Paraphrasing this verse in the New Testament, it would read thus: *The secret things belong to the Lord our God: but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children for ever, so that we may obey all the words of this law of love (or liberty).*

As he told him what the Lord had just shown him supernaturally, he was surprised for that was an accurate message.

Then he acknowledged that he would obey God on tithing when Kenneth questioned him about his decision.

1 John 5:7 KJV
*For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, THE WORD, and THE HOLY GHOST: and these three are one.*

You see, God's Word and God's Spirit are one in agreement.

Yeah, God's Word must be put ahead of God's Spirit; and both of them must always agree, or else there is a missing link!

You know, for example, God's Word teaches us to tithe; then God's Spirit agrees with that by teaching or leading us to do the same!

Jesus said: *But when He, the Spirit of Truth (the Truth-giving Spirit) comes, HE WILL GUIDE YOU INTO ALL THE TRUTH (the whole, full Truth). For He will not speak His own message [on His own authority]; but He will tell whatever He hears [from the Father; He will give the message that has been given to Him], and He will announce and declare to you the things that are to come [that will happen in the future]* (John 16:13 AMPC).

He continued: *But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and act on My behalf], HE WILL TEACH YOU ALL THINGS. And He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your remembrance) everything I have told you* (John 14:26 AMPC).

Yeah, the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth (the whole truth). He will teach us all things (the whole truth). He's the Best Teacher. The Teacher of teachers.

So, Kenneth commanded that demon to leave his body in Jesus' name.

Then he asked him to go home and eat a T-bone steak. He did, and when he revisited the doctor, he x-rayed him and couldn't find any sign or symptom of the ulcer.

The man resumed work; and God prospered him spiritually and physically, as he was healed of stomach ailment and he became a tither.

In this case, his refusal to pay tithes was exposed by God to the prophet through a vision.

Actually, Kenneth had a word of knowledge. And this agrees with the Biblical teaching on tithe. (Please see the previous lectures on tithe.)

Romans 1:11 AMPC
For I am yearning to see you, that I may impart and share with you *SOME SPIRITUAL GIFT TO STRENGTHEN AND ESTABLISH YOU;*

Spiritual gifts are to STRENGTHEN and ESTABLISH us!

As a matter of caution, visions, revelations, prophecies, dreams and spiritual gifts at large are not to introduce new doctrines to us, rather they are to help corroborate, reinforce, strengthen, consolidate, establish, revive, demystify, encourage, simplify and confirm doctrines that are already contained in the Holy Scriptures!

Are there still people today that God speaks to clearly in visions, revelations, prophecies or dreams?

Solomon noted: *WHERE THERE IS NO VISION, THE PEOPLE PERISH: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he* (Proverbs 29:18 KJV).

Other versions put this verse thus: Proverbs 29:18 GodsWord
*WITHOUT PROPHETIC VISION PEOPLE RUN WILD, but blessed are those who follow God's teachings.*

*WHERE THERE IS NO VISION, THE PEOPLE ARE UNCONTROLLED; but he who keeps the law will be happy.*

Proverbs 29:18 MSG
*IF PEOPLE CAN'T SEE WHAT GOD IS DOING, THEY STUMBLE ALL OVER THEMSELVES; But when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed.*

Proverbs 29:18 NIV
*WHERE THERE IS NO REVELATION, PEOPLE CAST OFF RESTRAINT; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.*

*WHEN PEOPLE DO NOT ACCEPT DIVINE GUIDANCE, they run wild. But whoever obeys the law is happy.*

Similarly, Paul believed in genuine visions and revelations.

He declared: *... I will come to VISIONS [what I have seen] AND REVELATIONS [what I have heard] OF THE LORD* 2 (Corinthians 12:1 KJV).

Even Joel prophesied as pointed out: *But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; [17] And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall PROPHESY, and your young men shall see VISIONS, and your old men shall dream DREAMS:* (Acts 2:16-17 KJV).

*ii. MISSIONARY TO CHILE*

In chapter 3 of his wonderful book, *"MANIFESTING KINGDOM AUTHORITY AND POWER,"* Moses Olanrewaju Aransiola wrote about a missionary to Chile whom the Lord dealt with on tithes.

This missionary was pastoring extremely poor peasants.

He tried his level best to declare to them the supposed whole counsel of God.

Paul said: *For I have not shunned to declare unto you ALL THE COUNSEL OF GOD* (Acts 20:27 KJV).

Are we truly declaring the full counsel of God to the people?

Then, one day, the Lord spoke to him in clear terms: *"You have not declared My whole truth to these people!"*

He argued that he had taught them so many things in the Scriptures as he began to mention them one after the other.

After a brief pause, the Lord continued: *"You have not declared My tithe to them!"*

Dazed, this missionary protested, *"But Lord, these are very poor people! They hardly have enough to live. I can't ask them to tithe. They have nothing."*

After another brief pause, the Lord affirmed: *"You must declare to them My tithe!"*

The following Sunday, he admitted publicly to the congregation that the Lord had revealed to him that he had not been faithful in declaring His whole counsel to them because the subject of tithe had been ignored.

Then he explained tithe in the Scripture for about an hour challenging them to prove the Lord on the subject matter.

The Sunday that followed witnessed their positive response in faith as they piled up different items on the altar since they didn't have money: chickens, eggs, woven articles, leather goods, and such like.

Reluctantly, but faithfully, this missionary received those items and sold some of them off.

He used the money for Church work while he distributed some of the items to the needy around and kept some for himself.

The congregation kept on tithing Sunday after Sunday.

The drought took its toil on the society in grinding poverty! There were crop failure and building deterioration!

Surprisingly, supernaturally and miraculously, those members of the tithing congregation had bumper harvest in their crop and animal farms.

While the community was languishing in poverty, this tithing congregation was booming in abundance!

In the process of time, they began to tithe money as they sold some of their harvest.

Eventually, they built a wonderful edifice for worship.

They moved from austerity to prosperity!

*HE SENT HIS WORD, and healed them, AND DELIVERED THEM FROM THEIR DESTRUCTIONS.*

*iii. MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE*

1 John 5:14-15 KJV
*And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, IF WE ASK ANY THING ACCORDING TO HIS WILL, HE HEARETH US: [15] And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him.*

I believe I prayed according to His will some years ago, when I prayed that God would grant His people wisdom, knowledge and understanding of tithes.

Therefore, He answered me because *"this is the confidence that we have in him, that, IF WE ASK ANY THING ACCORDING TO HIS WILL, HE HEARETH US: And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him"* (1 John 5:14-15 KJV).

Ephesians 1:16-18 KJV
*Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; [17] That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you THE SPIRIT OF WISDOM and REVELATION IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF HIM: [18] THE EYES OF YOUR UNDERSTANDING BEING ENLIGHTENED; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,*

As a minister, I was concerned because some of the Church members back then did not take tithe as something important.

One of the staunch Church members saw it as giving left-over to God!

So, I taught them about it and even brought another minister from outside to speak on the subject.

Still, this precious staunch member refused to see the significance of it until I began to pray that God would open the eyes of their understanding to see the truth on this subject of tithe. Then the breakthrough came (see Ephesians 1:16-18)!

One day, that staunch member said that he had just understood or begun to understand tithing. So, God Himself changed the man forever. And he began to tithe with understanding.

Glory to God!

Every pastor should not only teach tithing and offering but also pray that the people’s eyes of understanding be opened and that God will give them the spirit of wisdom and revelation knowledge of Christ along that line and other lines (please see Ephesians 1:17-18 again).

As explained previously, tithes should be used to take good care of ministers, widows, orphans and strangers, but widows and orphans who have relations that can take care of them should not bother the Church.

Also, young widows can remarry (Deut 26:12; 1Tim 5:3-16).

The truth is: tithes are meant to go to the local Church, not to an outreach ministry somewhere.

So, if our ministry organizes an outreach, those attending can give us a freewill offering as led by God, but they should take their tithes to their local Churches where they are being pastored and nurtured (see Malachi 3:8-10).

*SECTION 2: WITNESSES AGAINST THE TRUTH*

In Jesus' name, I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto me and the Body of Christ locally and globally, especially ..... [mention the names of specific people whose hearts are hardened towards tithes] THE SPIRIT OF WISDOM and REVELATION IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF HIM: THE EYES OF OUR UNDERSTANDING BEING ENLIGHTENED on tithes [you may mention other things ....] ; that we may know what is the hope of his calling, and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints ...

*SINNER’S CONFESSION*

If you are not yet born-again, say this:
I choose to repent today. Also I choose to believe that Jesus died for my sins and rose up for my justification.
The Scripture says, *“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”* (Rom 10:9).

Therefore, I receive the Holy Spirit by faith right now and I begin to speak in an unknown tongue (unlearned tongue) as He gives me the utterance.
I command every foul spirit [spirit of fear, spirit of unbelief, spirit of doubt, religious spirit, unforgiving spirit…] wanting to hinder me to stop in its evil operation in my life in Jesus’ name.
Thank you God for filling me with your Spirit in Jesus’ name (Amen).
