STRENGTH IN WEAKNESS

Strength in weakness…..what a remarkable concept. Our God is Amazing and Divine assistance is without measure or comparison. Only God can make such a marvelous guarantee, that even in our weaknesses, because of our reliance on Him; we are strong! Rather than relentless insistence that we strive for perfection of our own accord, which would define independence, God wants that we depend completely on Him. And this countenance will help us continue to grow in our dependent relationship with Him, as Jesus beautifully symbolized in John 15:5— “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” God understands our weaknesses and will at times rearrange our circumstances regarding those things in which we struggle. However, during those times that He prompts us and we know it’s Him, and we argue or refuse then we are disobeying Him. We are afforded an example of such disobedience and the anger it provoked, through the Lord’s servant Moses in the Book of Exodus: “Then Moses said to the Lord, “O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.” 11 So the Lord said to him, “Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord? 12 Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say.” 13 “But he said, “O my Lord, please send by the hand of whomever else You may send.” 14 “So the anger of the Lord was kindled against Moses, and He said: “Is not Aaron the Levite your brother? I know that he can speak well. And look, he is also coming out to meet you. When he sees you, he will be glad in his heart. 15 Now you shall speak to him and put the words in his mouth. And I will be with your mouth and with his mouth, and I will teach you what you shall do. 16 So he shall be your spokesman to the people. And he himself shall be as a mouth for you, and you shall be to him as God.” (Exodus 4:10-16) Inasmuch as God expects us to abide in this principle and He has made us to hear His Voice; (John 10:27) we are in disobedience when He calls us to something and we fail to follow through in trust. Even Moses angered God by refusing to obey and trust His Command to speak His Message to his people. Therein, Moses admitted his weakness in speaking ability, but his true failure was in refusing to trust in God’s Grace; that he would be made able to speak eloquently to the people inasmuch as God had Commanded him this special assignment. The Bible refers a great deal to human weakness and that His Glory is illuminated through them; rendering our own talents and abilities irrelevant. It may not always be the case as with Moses where God is Commanding us to do something uncomfortable, but we ought to pay attention and pray so we may be enabled to sense, and consequently respond to His gentle nudges. “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) “As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.” (Romans 8:36-37) “And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” (2Corinthians 12:9-10) “He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.” (Isaiah 40:29) “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13) “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15)
