GOD'S WORD IS "SHARPER THAN ANY TWO-EDGED SWORD"
by linzy bruno
“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12, nkjv) Verse Breakdown— --“living and powerful” The Bible is the only book in the universe that not only tells us of the history and the past, as recorded in the ancient texts of the Old Testament; it is applicable in the present Age AND is futuristic; revealing events that are yet to occur, which is known as Prophecy. --“two-edged sword” The Bible is also the only book that reveals to each individual both the good news as well as the not so good. We learn through the “milk of the Word” all about God’s Amazing Love, Mercy and forgiveness. But, the more mature believer not only abides in the comfort and encouragement of these more readily understood and good-feeling Scriptures, but also in the “meat of the Word.” The “meat of the Word” uncovers truths about ourselves that we may find hard to accept, like finding out something habitual that we enjoy, is actually a sin. --“the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” This is a continuation of the explanation, where more comparisons are made. When the truth about ourselves is revealed, our soul and spirit are suddenly at odds. It can cut so deep; to the bone, as revelations of sin are revealed, and the true condition of our hearts can no longer be ignored.. All believers that read God’s Word will undoubtedly come across these corrective verses and passages in Scripture, but a true lover of God wants to know and cooperate with God’s Spirit of divine change. AND only this holy desire that God can inspire can flip over the sword to its original side, and we are enabled to happily work with God to be all He wants us to be. It’s not that we will ever do life perfectly, but we do grow, and thus, we overcome a little bit at a time….This then is the meaning of the two-edged sword….
PARALLEL VERSES/PASSAGES depicting this Principle Jesus instructed His Disciples to “pick up their cross” in Matthew 16:24, Mark 8:34 & Luke 9:23 And to be sure to stay on the straight and narrow path in Matthew 7:13-14 And the Apostle Paul taught his church to “crucify their flesh,” and be “consecrated” to Christ in Romans 6:6, Galatians 5:24, Ephesians 4:22 & Colossians 3:5 These verses are likened to what he taught about spiritual circumcision in Colossians 2:11-13 & Romans 2:29 Paul also uses the analogy of the “old man” putting on the “new man” in 2Corinthians 5:17 to make his point on this important and eye-opening subject.
