Parental Life Review
by Olawale Ogunsola "18:2 What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge? The above are the words of the Unchangeable Changer, Who is the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth. He does what pleases Him everywhere and at any time. At a time in the land of Israel, a son could bear the sins of His father. I used to wonder why the children of Achan had to be stoned to death on the same day as their father for troubling people of God. How? The people of God lost power to confront their enemies because the Lord has forsaken them as a result of Achan's sin of covetousness. They ran away from their enemies who were few and feeble. To restore the smooth relationship between God and His people back to normal, the evil in their midst was taken away. That is, the object of greed (Joshua 7:21 (a goodly Babylonish garment, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight,) and the greedy (Achan). For proper cleansing, all the children of the man in question were wiped out. I used to wonder why, they until the Spirit of the Lord remind me that the Lord searches and knows the heart of everyone. He knows perfectly what kind of heart Achan's children had. It is not impossible that those children rejoiced when their father brought home the forbidden items into his house. It was possible that the children may have contributed in one way or the other in concealing those items. Details are available in Joshua chapter seven. This confirms the common proverb of the father eating sour grape and the children's teeth are set on edge. In His instructions to Prophet Ezekiel, the Lord chose to give the sons of a wicked man a chance to prove himself whether he will be on the Lord's side or not. The options are now before a son of a transgressor to walk in the way of his father or in the way of the Lord, Whom his father has forsaken to do according to the dictates of his evil heart. Therefore, for a son to escape from the same judgment melted to his father or awaiting him, it is better for a son to carry out a complete review of his father's life to know the pitfalls to avoid in his walk on the Earth. If a son refuses to walk in his father's evil ways but chose to walk in the right way and do the right thing, the Lord will exonerate him from his father's deserved judgment. Beloved, what ways have you chosen to walk in? Have you chosen the right way of the Lord or the rebellious ways of your fathers and their abominable customs? I therefore advise you to choose the way of the Lord; to obey Him in all things for your own good and the good of generations after you, so that you will become a good reference point to them. Carry out a review of your parents' lives and do the right things that will draw you to your Maker to Whom you will return to give account of your life.
