The Garden of Eden
by Chong Shipei Adam smiled. Eve was so beautiful. It was a wonder to look at her. What a treasure she was to him, a companion of companions. How different her presence had made him. He could still remember how lonely he had felt, even with all the animals God had created. The creation of Eve truly changed things. Eve was God's best gift, and his ideal helper. Eve made him feel complete. "Honey, what are you thinking?" Eve asked as she passed some grapes to Adam. Her hand was so lovely. "Of you, sweetie." Adam smiled. Grapes! Tasty, mouth-watering, simply delicious. God surely knows his taste. Is there ever an end to God's goodness? Life was a bliss for them. Adam was glad that Eve and himself never listened to the serpent. Oh, how it had tempted them, telling them that partaking the tree of knowledge of good and evil will make them like God. It was so tempting to listen to it, to taste the fruit that God said will bring them death if they did. Adam was glad that Eve and him stood fast to God's command. It was a very close shave, but they chose to obey God. "I was wondering, if we had partaken of the fruit which God had forbidden us to, what would have happened?" Eve asked, as if she could read Adam's mind. Adam had wondered the same thing as well. He replied, "Don't think of such things. Nothing good comes out of disobedience towards God and everything good comes out of obedience towards him." He looked with contentment at his wife. "You are right, my darling.” Eve smiled. Oh, how sweet her smile was. God is so good indeed! For Adam and Eve, life is indeed a bliss and a paradise. That is because they choose to obey God above all else.
