Possessions Of The Wicked
by Olawale Ogunsola It is evident that the Lord owns everything and everyone on and in the Earth. He alone has the right to allot which portion should go to who at any point in time. That is why many times those who do not fear God are blessed with many of God's possessions; sometimes, we wonder "why?" That is God for you. He does what He wants everywhere and at anytime. No one can question Him. However, He has His reasons which He does not need to explain to anyone, except He reveals them to His servants who fear Him. On the other hand, the wicked who chose not to change His evil ways runs a great risk of losing his life and possessions to someone who fears the Lord his God. This was the case of Nabal, the husband of Abigail. This man was given all round blessings. Do you know that with all these, this man Nabal was described in the Scriptures as being "evil in his doings"(verse 3). He also exhibited this traits when David sent his men to seek his help in time of his own troubles(verses 7-14). This almost cost him his life from the hand of David and his men but for the intervention of his understanding wife, Abigail who blew away the tide of death approaching his family. He repaid evil for good to David. This is common with the wicked. David had protected what Nabal had in the wilderness before he (David) sent his men to request for "whatever" Nabal could afford to give him and his men(5-8,21). How did Abigail saved Nabal and his household? She made provisions as she deemed fit for David and his men. She ward off the evil planned against the family. For this massive demonstration of wickedness, the Lord killed Nabal after ten days. After this, Abigail became David's wife. Possessions Of The Wicked, who owns it? It is worthy of note that the only wife of Nabal was Abigail, according to Biblical records. Now, Nabal is dead, legally speaking, who is the rightful owner of all that he left behind? I think it is Abigail, his wife. When David heard of Nabal's demise, he sent for Abigail to become his wife; a request she gladly obliged. This was how a wise and understanding woman became the wife of a wise man, David. The question now arises, "Who now has control over Nabal's possessions?" This was how possessions changed hands from the wicked to the righteous. Was David a righteous man? "Yes!" is the answer.
