It is disheartening that many who claim that they are Christians are grossly strangers to themselves. What do I mean? Many Christians do not know who they are or who they ought to be. Meaning that they do not know what it takes to be a Christian or what being a Christian entails.
Beloved, how much do you know about what you claim to profess? If you do not know what Christianity is or what goes with it, the tendencies are there that you will be a victim of your own ignorance. God forbids! That is the reason you must be closer to the Scriptures.
This was the case with the Psamist in Psalm 119: 63. Because he knew himself and the God he served, he was bold in the Lord to write these words for us, "I am a companion of all who fear You And of those who keep Your precepts" New King James Version ( NKJV). In New Living Translation, it is rendered thus, "I am a friend to anyone who fears you, anyone who obeys your commandments" Can you see reason to know who you are in Christ and what you stand for? It important to know who you have believed so that it will be easier for you to identify who should be your companions or friends and who should not. From the Psamist, because he feared God and keeps His commandments, he looks for people of like minds with whom he can flow together.
I love the way Amos 3:3 puts it, "Can two walk together unless they are agreed?" New King James Version (NKJV). New Living Translation declares it thus, "Can two walk together except they be agreed?" In essence, it means that in friendship, there should be a binding force uniting people together. The words, "unless, except, without, and other synonyms used by other versions of the Scripture's" are pointers to the fact that, having a companion calls for a uniting factor.
In other words, it is asking yourself, "Why am I in friendship with...? Why am I walking with him? What are the reason(s) we move together? These and more passionate questions should be asked to determine whether you have chosen a right friend or not. Closely related to the above is where are we going with this relationship? Every relationship with set goals are no doubt a meaningful relationship. Not only that, if the goal is against God, then the end result will be destruction.
REFLECTION Jesus Christ declares, "For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" Matthew 16:26. Is it not time to evaluate all your relationship with your companion(s) or friend(s) to determine those who fear God and obey His commandments? May the Lord help you to make the right decisions in respect of your friends so you can both walk together until eternity in heaven in Jesus name. Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.
