One Reason We Need the Old Testament
by Tonja Taylor 7 For if that first covenant had been without defect, there would have been no room for another one or an attempt to institute another one.--Hebrews 8:7, AMPC For some reason, there are people--even those who say they are Christians (which, technically, means us who truly believe in Christ Jesus as our Savior and LORD, through faith in what His pure blood did on the cross, when it cleansed us from all our sins, such as John 3:15-17, Romans 5:8, I John 1:7)--that think we can do away with or don't need the Old Testament. Not so. Yes, the Old Covenant was not sufficient to carry anyone to true Salvation. However, it is a rich history and a collection of the many prophesies of the coming Messiah, along with a powerful picture of God's faithfulness to an unfaithful people (whcih we all are, before we receive Christ Jesus as our Savior and LORD!); not to mention the soul-searching Psalms of King David and others, which can bring us great comfort and hopea; the many jewels of wisdom in the Proverbs, and God's plan for finances (the first five books), and so much more!
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.--Romans 5:8, NIV But if we [really] are living and walking in the Light, as He [Himself] is in the Light, we have [true, unbroken] fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses (removes) us from all sin and guilt [keeps us cleansed from sin in all its forms and manifestations].--I John 1:7, AMPC The LORD Jesus shows up in many places in the Old Testament, if you know where to look! Ask Him to reveal Himself to you, and to give you a new enjoyment and deeper understanding of the wonderful Old Testament, and praise Him that He opened up the Covenant to all of us in the world! Hallelujah! 20 Now may the God of peace [Who is the Author and the Giver of peace], Who brought again from among the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, by the blood [that sealed, ratified] the everlasting agreement (covenant, testament), 21 Strengthen (complete, perfect) and make you what you ought to be and equip you with everything good that you may carry out His will; [while He Himself] works in you and accomplishes that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ (the Messiah); to Whom be the glory forever and ever (to the ages of the ages). Amen (so be it).--Hebrews 13:20-21, AMPC Through books, courses, presentations, service, prayer, worship, and more, Tonja and her husband live to exalt God. Her series for girls, P.O.W.E.R. GIRL ADVENTURES, is now out (books I-V), along with LEGACY; YOUR HOLY HEALTH: VISIONS OF THE KING, and more. See the "River Rain Creative" YT channel. Article Source: http://www.faithwriters.com |
