THE INDEPENDENT BELIEVER

There are all different ways we humans see the world. The secular individual will see independence as a highly sought after quality that is deserving of respect and admiration.

As for believers, there are varying viewpoints. Some try to do everything for themselves and maintain autonomy from God and don’t even go to Him in times of need or disaster. There are some who live entirely by their feelings and run to God on occasion. There are those who rely on God somewhat, and there are those who ignore God until something bad happens. And the list goes on…

But the independent believer is not nearly as well off as the dependent believer who relies completely on God………Psalm 34:19, Isaiah 41:13, Philippians 4:7 & Matthew 6:33.

The Truth is, God has a part, and we have a part. And even in those partswe are wise to rely on Him. We cannot do God’s Part and He will not do ours. He expects us to do the part He assigns us to carry out; the tricky part is “What is my part God and what is YOURS?”

But understanding our part doesn’t need to be tricky because the Lord will lead us in this, as He does in everything we ask and need of Him:

"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." (James 1:5)

Complete and total independence from God completely disagrees with Scripture. But the saying: “The Lord helps those who help themselves” can only be helpful if it's not taken to the extreme, because as it may have even been intended to suggest, there is most of the time something we are in need of doing. But, to some believers this means they are not to go to God for anything. This is the strictly independent believer; utterly addicted to self-care.

Our level of independence should be according to our Father, as everything should be brought to Him and this touchy subject is no different.

God will always provide His Guidance to all who demonstrate sincerity of heart before Him; He is ALWAYS there. So let God be God in your life and follow His leading. His Word says: “My sheep hear my Voice….” Therefore, all believers need is prayer. Praying that God will reveal those personal responsibilities in all things encountered and hence, there will be very little room for confusion, and not hinder His Voice; the only Voice we can trust, and the One Who knows what's best for us and can bring it to pass.....for He can do all things, and we are severely limited in knowledge and power; sorely lacking knowledge regarding tomorrow.

Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:4-5)
