The Only Time OMG is OK!
by Tonja Taylor Many people--even Christians!--use the phrase "OMG". All of us who are His are to watch our speech, and speak those words that bring grace to those who hear (I'm talking to myself!). I tutor online and when a student says that, I have learned to respond with, "God is good!" That has resulted in planting a seed of grace, and in stopping that wrongful expression! Here's are several places I've found where it's OK to use this phrase--always in reverence of the LORD, or in an earnest cry to Him for help! This expression is found in the Bible, and it may be used emphatically, but never as a curse word! I have listed several instances, some are found in The Message, which is a paraphrase--written to show how people talk today! "Now, O my God, I beseech You, let Your eyes be open and Your ears attentive to the prayer offered in this temple."--2 Chronicles 6:40, AMPC "Saying, O my God, I am ashamed and blush to lift my face to You, my God, for our iniquities have risen higher than our heads and our guilt has mounted to the heavens."--Ezra 9:6, AMPC "Remember in my favor, O my God, Everything I’ve done for these people."--Nehemiah 5:19, MSG "O my God, [earnestly] remember me concerning this and wipe not out my good deeds and kindnesses done for the house of my God and for His service."--Nehemiah 13:14, AMPC "Remember me, O my God, for good."--Nehemiah 3:31, MSG "Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God! For You have struck all my enemies on the cheek; You have broken the teeth of the ungodly."--Psalm 3:7, AMPC "O my God, I trust, lean on, rely on, and am confident in You. Let me not be put to shame or [my hope in You] be disappointed; let not my enemies triumph over me."--Psalm 25:2, AMPC "I delight to do Your will, O my God; yes, Your law is within my heart."--Psalm 40:8, AMPC "Deliver me from my enemies, O my God; defend and protect me from those who rise up against me."--Psalm 59:1, AMPC "I will also praise You with the harp, even Your truth and faithfulness, O my God; unto You will I sing praises with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel."--Psalm 71:22, AMPC "Preserve my life, for I am godly and dedicated; O my God, save Your servant, for I trust in You [leaning and believing on You, committing all and confidently looking to You, without fear or doubt]."--Psalm 86:2, AMPC "Blessed are you who enter in God’s name— from God’s house we bless you! God is God, he has bathed us in light. Adorn the shrine with garlands, hang colored banners above the altar! You’re my God, and I thank you. O my God, I lift high your praise. Thank God—he’s so good. His love never quits!"--Psalm 118:26-29, MSG "He who overcomes (is victorious), I will make him a pillar in the sanctuary of My God; he shall never be put out of it or go out of it, and I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which descends from My God out of heaven, and My own new name."--Revelation 3:12, AMPC So now, you DO have many ways to use this phrase--to the Glory of God! Through books, courses, presentations, service, prayer, worship, and more, Tonja and her husband live to exalt God. Her series for girls, P.O.W.E.R. GIRL ADVENTURES, is now out (books I-V), along with LEGACY; YOUR HOLY HEALTH: VISIONS OF THE KING, and more. See the "River Rain Creative" YT channel. Article Source: http://www.faithwriters.com |
