How to Have More of God
by Tonja Taylor

Therefore, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit.--Romans 8:1

You know you are born again, but you're not sure you can hear God, or you feel guilty quite often? Here are some insights that can help you have more of God--and the peace and rest and confidence His Spirit gives.

Although I was born again in Vacation Bible School (VBS) when I was nine, I did not grow up knowing that God was not angry; I thought He was. I thought He was continually waiting for me to mess up, so He could correct me.

I knew He was a loving God, and the ultimate form of Love is giving--and that He had given Jesus, His Son, to die for the whole world, and pay for all our wrongs, because none of us ever could.

I excelled at just about everything I did, from academics to sports to extracurricular activities, and more.

But all those trophies and ribbons and accolades were not enough. I could hardly enjoy my victories--even breaking my own district records in sports, etc.--without the thought of having to do better next time breaking in and stealing my joy.

I was under condemnation for decades, until I started to realize that I am--only by my faith in what the Blood of Jesus did for me on the cross (but that is everything!)--righteous!

I am right with God, as long as I stay close to Him.

He tells us that, when we love Him, we will obey His commands. As any good parent has rules to be enforced for the good of the children, so does our dear Father God.

I do remember a shaft of Light (Revelation) coming to me in my late twenties, I think, that gave me great hope and encouragement:

So whoever cleanses himself [from what is ignoble and unclean, who separates himself from contact with contaminating and corrupting influences] will [then himself] be a vessel set apart and useful for honorable and noble purposes, consecrated and profitable to the Master, fit and ready for any good work.--2 Timothy 2:21, AMPC

I understood that, by taking action on my part to purposely put out of my life things that offended God (and I learned to ask, "Holy Spirit, is there anything in my house or life that offends You?")--and there were a terrible number of things through the years, but God knows the real hearts of us real children of God long to please Him, and He gives us strength to understand and correct our lives, Hallelujah!--He would reward me by using me for more noble purposes.

He has, and He will do the same for you.

Go for it. You'll never regret it!
