Be Like the Palm Tree
by Tonja Taylor The [uncompromisingly] righteous shall flourish like the palm tree [be long-lived, stately, upright, useful, and fruitful]; they shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon [majestic, stable, durable, and incorruptible]. Planted in the house of the Lord, they shall flourish in the courts of our God. [Growing in grace] they shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be full of sap [of spiritual vitality] and [rich in the] verdure [of trust, love, and contentment]. [They are living memorials] to show that the Lord is upright and faithful to His promises; He is my Rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.--Ps. 92:12-15 AMP Trees are special to me, and obviously, special to God; He created them and planted them in the first Garden! 9 And out of the ground the Lord God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight or to be desired—good (suitable, pleasant) for food; the tree of life also in the center of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of [the difference between] good and evil and blessing and calamity.--Genesis 2:9, AMPC I have a tree, a red maple, that I discovered about five years ago, when it was just four inches high. It had sprouted by the shrubs, and needed to be transplanted before the maintenance crew cut it down. I took it and transplanted it to the perfect spot in the back yard, where it would prosper, and also serve as a shade and barrier from noise and traffic. Although it was not a palm tree, I delighted in it and carefully tended it, to make sure it had a strong beginning. I gave it extra nutrients from day one, and was also careful to guide the branches into the shape that I desired, to provide maximum fullness. When I spotted any appearance of disease, I cursed the root of the junk, and spoke health over the tree. My dear Daddy God caused that little red maple to spring up by the shrubs, knowing since before the world began that I would transplant it, care for it, and highly enjoy it! Now, it is a flourishing, lovely, 10-foot-plus-tall tree that is a great delight and benefit in many ways! When I move (which will happen very soon!), then whomever lives in this house will enjoy and benefit from this tree. As Believers in the LORD Jesus Christ Who have been born again of His Spirit, we are new creations (II Cor. 5:17); we are the planting of the LORD. Wherever we are, we are to be like these lovely trees, and be blessings and benefits in the earth. Another way to say it is, "Bloom where you are planted." Speak this Scripture daily over yourself, and watch as you grow more like a lovely tree that God planted!
