Have You Seen Him?
by Olawale Ogunsola It takes two to tango. A relationship exists between two individuals. To add value to such a relationship calls for seeing each other regularly or occasionally, as the case may be. It is odd if one sees the other without reciprocating it by the other. This was the case with Father Adam in the garden of comfort, Eden, and God his Creator who visited him regularly to converse with him to know his state. This fine relationship went on for a season until the enemy of mankind broke the relationship with eating of a forbidden fruit. It was the wife who was first deceived into it before she introduced it to her husband, who also ate the forbidden fruit. Genesis 3. In verse eight, we read, "And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden." Do you know that in his fallen state, the Lord God remained faithful in all His ways by visiting Adam and his wife. His love never fails. These words are echoed in Rom 5:8. As it was, so it is and so shall it be! Adam and his wife who had been having a very close relationship with their their creator suddenly became His enemy. The started to run away for their lover. They hid for the one who sees them and was looking for them. They have fallen out of His favor and glory. They could not meet to see the face of an Holy God in their state of sin. They could not come to Him with their nakedness. They could not withstand seeing Him who sees them. They tried as much as possible to avoid Him. A loving God continued to search for them. In their nakedness, they covered it with leaves. When God met them and they saw Him, He covered their nakedness with skin of an animal. You can read this in verses seven and twenty-one. Their covering represents human righteousness which is as good as "filthy rags" (Isaiah 64:6); while God's provision of covering stands for an everlasting righteousness, Christ is our righteousness. God's provision for human nakedness. I Corinthians 1:30. As it was with Adam and Eve, so it was with Hagar, Sarah's servant. With love, her Mistress gave her to her husband, Abraham, to be his wife because she was barren As soon as Hagar became pregnant, a spirit of arrogance entered into her Her mistress "became despised in her eyes" Gen 16:5. What was the consequences of this? " And when Sarah dealt harshly with her, she fled from her presence" Gen 16:6. Can you see the relevance between her case and that of our fore-parents? They all flew "from the presence of" those who loved them. In her trouble, a loving God sent His angel to the sinful woman, Hagar, where she fled to. The Angel of God gave her good news about the man - child to be born. Genesis 16:10-12. However, he told her what she needed to do, "Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hand." Gen 16:9. Her major wrongdoing is inability to submit to the right and appropriate authority. This was the main cause of her trouble. After the angelic message, Hagar gave a right description of the Lord our God thus, That is who God is. He is all-seeing! Do you know the beauty of her disclosure? She revealed also,"Have I also here seen Him who sees me? Verse 13c. Now to you my reader, wherever you are now, God sees you. No matter how evil your deeds might have being. He sees you and all your activities. Your acts are naked before Him. He is looking for you to become His own, so that your evil deeds will become history. All you need to do is to in turn see Him today. Hagar directed the last question to herself. This forms the title of this piece. Ask yourself Have I also here sees me? " You need to! Adam and Eve could not rescue themselves, Hagar could not help herself. They all,at the end saw the one who saw them and were delivered.
