The Best Labour Is The Labour Into The Rest Of God
by Ngozi Nwoke What type of labour do you engage in most? Many people are labouring for different reasons and these reasons determine the outcomes. However, there is a labour we must all engage in, which is very important, the best and of eternal value. And the best labour is the labour into the rest of God For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do - Hebrews 4:8-13 (KJV, emphasis mine). Introduction Labour is the use of physical, mental and social effort to produce something and it's related to hard work. However, when it's positively engaged, it yields great results. Success in life requires that you put in hard work, and how much you put in determines how much success you will enjoy. This includes all areas of your life; so, whichever area you're willing to labour in will yield her fruit. The Challenge Unfortunately, people spend so much energy and resources labouring on things that have temporary value. And they neglect the labour that has eternal value. For instance, people labour to get a good education and build their families, career and businesses. But they neglect to build their relationship with God. Truly, where your treasure is there your heart will be (Matthew 6:21). God's Rest People labour to enter into financial freedom, fame, peaceful homes and success in life. This they do, to gain a measure of rest in life. But, there remains a rest which only God can give, and is exclusive to the people of God. And in this rest, you cease from your own work as God did. Also, it has eternal value. Surely, you won't want to labour here on earth and continue to labour in the life after death! Labour to Enter God's Rest Therefore, labour to enter this rest of God. That is, diligently ensure that you don't miss this rest that the Lord will give ONLY to His people. Again, do all you have to do to secure your place in this rest. Surely, you will not labour in vain. The best labour is the labour into the rest of God Hindrance to God's Rest The major hindrance to this rest of God is unbelief (Hebrews 4:6). This was the case of those to whom it was first preached; they couldn't enter because of unbelief. Again, it's being preached to you now; don't allow unbelief to rob you of God's rest. So, give your life to Christ, believe the word of the Lord, labour to walk in it and you will enter into God's rest. Nothing is hidden from the word of God The truth is that nothing is hidden from the word of God. It can penetrate any part of you: spirit, soul and body. And it's a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. So, study the word and it will show areas that you need to clean up or straighten out. In addition, it will confirm to you if you're ready and qualified to enter the rest of the Lord. Conclusion Therefore, while you toil to have earthly results, put in more effort in your walk with God and secure your place in God's rest. For it's real and has eternal value that you must not miss.
