Are you between two opinions, to obey or to disobey God? Then you need to pause and consider your decision very well. Many Christians make decisions in a haste only to discover that they were wrong decisions. However, we can avoid unpleasant experiences if we will choose to obey God all the time. This post emphasizes the need to choose to obey God all the time because it's expensive to disobey God.

So Samuel said: "Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king."- 1 Samuel 15:22-23 (NKJV).

People Give Reasons For Disobedience

People always have reasons why they choose to disobey God. And many of the reasons are often okay to man. However, it never changes the fact that it's disobedience to God. And you will always have two choices to choose from before any action: to obey or disobey God. And YOU make the final choice.

Some people disobey out of ignorance or lack of adequate information. And some others disobey out of mere fleshly desires, which include lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and pride of life. Nevertheless, no matter the reason, the consequences of disobedience are expensive.

Gravity Of Disobedience

It's truly expensive to disobey God, and you will surely pay for it either now or later. And the gravity of the consequence depends on the issue of disobedience and how God considers it. Furthermore, the gravity of disobedience also depends on who disobeyed. This is because, to whom much is given, much is expected (Luke 12:48).

Also, the effect varies from individuals and their relationships with God. So, if you have a good relationship with God, the impact of disobedience will be more than the person who is far from God. However, at this time, I will like to say that it's better when you have a good relationship with God. This is because godly repentance will perfect you (2 Corinthians 7:10) and God chastises those that He loves (Hebrews 12:6-7). This, He does for their good.

Cost Of Disobedience

The cost of disobedience is temporary or permanent. This includes sickness, poverty, stagnation, failure, marital challenges, losses, barrenness, delays, unfulfilled destinies, destruction, famine, captivity, terror, and ultimately death, and all that you have in Deuteronomy 28:15-68.

The pleasure of disobedience is so temporary compared to the consequence of it. For instance, the pleasure of immorality which is for a moment cannot be compared to the agony of suffering from sexually transmitted diseases like AIDS. Also, the result of stealing cannot be compared to the result of being caught and prosecuted. Truly, the devil is a deceiver and has never had the good of any man in his agenda. Beware of his lies.

Why Obey God

Surely, it's better to obey God at all times, because He knows the end from the beginning. And every instruction He gives is for us to get the best out of life and the best of His blessings. For the scripture says that His thoughts for us are not of evil but of good, to give us a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). So, for every instruction God gives you, He has your good in mind. Therefore don't fight it, just obey it.

Biblical Examples

Israel as a nation is one nation God used to teach us great things about obedience and disobedience. Whenever they disobeyed, evil came on them. But when they obeyed, good came on them.

Also, there are so many examples of people who disobeyed God and paid for it dearly. For instance, when King Saul disobeyed God, the throne was taken from him and his family. And there, God taught us that obedience is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22-23).

Furthermore, Moses, who God used greatly, also suffered for disobedience. This was because he didn't honour God before the Israelites. For God asked him to speak to the rock but he struck the rock.  Surely, you will consider this trivial but not God, considering who committed it. This disobedience, God may have overlooked for another person but not for Moses who knew Him face to face. And for disobeying Him, the Lord denied Moses from entering the Promised Land he suffered to take the Israelites to (Numbers 20:7-12). However, God allowed him to see it from a mountain top (Numbers 27:12-14). It's expensive to disobey God.

Conclusion

Disobedience to God is sure to happen on earth but it's your choice to commit it. And no one escapes from its consequences, for it will surely come; whether now or later. Therefore, no matter the reason or people compelling you to disobey, make a choice today never to disobey God.
