One day in the last week of July, a lady presenter who handles marital issues spoke well on "a wise man". In her analysis, she did not fail to summarise her thoughts with "You men are women's burden bearers."
One thing I am sure is that there is truth in that statement, and it has a Biblical support in Galatia 6:2, "Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ"
This sister's statement only need modification. What do I mean? The Bible verse quoted did not declare that ONLY MEN should bear WOMEN's burdens. It means a man or woman must bear each other's burdens.
Let me point out here that many marriages are collapsing, and many have done so, more will surely do, because of pre-conceived notions that emanate from individual's family background, religious beliefs, books read, movies watched, comments of married men and women as well as radio programmes listened to, among others.
If you enter into a marriage with the preconceived notion that a husband is the wife's burden bearer, there is the possibility of your becoming a permanent burden to your man. If your spouse bears your burden and you also become a burden, be convinced that Burden Bearer can Collapse, BBC.
Do you even know that if you become part of your hubby's burdens he should bear, you have assumed another ungodly responsibility of a TASK MASTER and not a wife. What was the experience of Jews in the hands of the taskmasters in the land of Egypt? Exodus 1:11 discloses, "Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh supply cities, Pithon and Raamses,"
Before he collapses, he may struggle to build you "supply cities" in all forms or he may have built them. Do you enter into a marriage for your selfish motives? Have a rethink. Remember BBC!
A marriage, or simply a happy home is like a building, it needs to be built with wisdom from above and not with wisdom from the world. Each member of the family, the partners as well as the children who join later, must co-operate with one another to carry out the building. To do this together will bring comfort, joy and peace. These, among others, will guarantee their longevity.
Note this in the days of Nehemiah,. "The strength of the labourers is failing, and there is so much rubbish that we are not able to build the wall." Nehemiah 4:10.
Do you want to give your spouse so much rubbish to handle or do you want to become part of the rubbish he must deal with? Remember BBC! How should the partners be and how should they handle family burdens? Nehemiah 4:17 narrates how the Jews built the wall of Jerusalem in the days of Governor Nehemiah, "Those who built on the wall, and those who carried burdens, loaded themselves so that with one hand they worked at construction, and with the other held a weapon."
Can you see a workable division of labor at work? If your husband is the burden bearer, you need to be a wise builder according to Proverbs 14:1. Not only this, you and your spouse must hold firmly your weapons of defence of family. Both of you must not give room for any invader to frustrate your effort at building a happy hhom.
Remember always BBC!
I love Apostle Paul's declaration and decision in 2 Corinthians 11:9, "And when I was present with you, and in need, I was a burden to no one, for what I lacked the brethren who came from Macedonia supplied And in everything, I kept myself from being burdensome to you, and so I will keep myself."
To you, my beloved reader, is this your resolution? Do you determine to pursue it as your personal policy? It will be to your advantage. If you overburden your husband and he collapses, BBC, God forbid!, you will bear the brunt. May you not experience widowhood in your early life in Jesus name. If your Burden Bearer Colapses, BBC, it will not be of any benefit to you but sorrow.
Be a very good marriage partner, build your happy home with your man, enjoy a peaceful home in Jesus name. Remember BBC! Stay blessed and prepared for the imminent coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. Note : Scriptures quoted are from New King James Version NKJV.
