"The definition of a feud is "a bitter, and violent quarrel, especially between clans or families, often characterised by killings and counter killings. "The definition of a feud is a prolonged bitter disagreement or fight between families, family members or friends." Your Dictionary.com "A feast is a special meal with very good food or a large meal for many people." Dictionary.com.
The two definitions are two extremes. They are supposed to have nothing to do together forever. They are expected to be two parallel lines that can never meet. However, in some cases, special cases, they are connected. One springs up because of the other.
There was a feud between a part of a country and another, many years ago. One part purposed to sever relationship with the other. The opposition was hot. A foreign nation visited each of the opposing camps. What was the mission of that country? To settle the feud? Far be it from them.
That country is a manufacturer of strong and effective weapons of war: guns, missiles, etc. The representative of that country assured each party involved of unfailing support by means of supplying them any weapon of their choice. Do you think it will be done without costs to the feuding parties? The support was not without costs to them. Various meetings would have been called to discuss sale and purchase of ammunition. The supplying nation will be well of economically but the feuding camps would become desolate and poor. The former would be feasting on the running feud between the warning camps. Thank God, the said impending feud was ripped in the bud before it could explode beyond control. The groups settled their differences amicably. Halleluiah!
A feud can exist between nations, religious bodies, families, friends and so on. Every feud emanates from a relationship that turns sour.
So it is with a nuclear family. A feud may exist in a family for long. An example is family members who decided not to deal with a daughter who married from another religion or tribe. Narrowing it down to husband and wife, do you know that when a feud brews between a couple and it is allowed to be prolonged for a season, there are people around them who will feed fine on their rifts? Are you surprised? So it is! It has happened before, it happens now and it will continue to. It is left to those who are involved in such a feud to mend fences to fill the gap created for "feast officers" who are close to them.
Let me give an example here. A sister had a friend who lost her husband a few years ago. She introduced her friend to her husband and she became her family friend. As time passed by, a feud ensued between the husband and the wife, the widow family friend talked to the husband on behalf of the wife. She later spoke with the wife, her friend. To cut a long story short, the widow was pregnant for the husband of her friend. She gave birth to two, (or is it three?) , children. In other words, she became "the second wife" of the man. At the end of the day, the feud was over but not without scars, permanent scars. Is this not feasting on a feud?
Do you know what? The three persons involved claimed to be Christians, but where is the Holy Bible in the whole episode? Whereas, there is an antidote to every feud that involves a believer.
What can this be?
"Be angry and, do not sin, do not let sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil" Ephesians 4:26 NKJV. Do you realise that following this scriptural instructions can put a permanent stop to any current and brewing feud? To nurse a disagreement endlessly gives room for opportunists to milk the parties involved to their own selfish advantage; such "Feud feeders" do not and can never consider the interest of the parties concerned at heart. They appear to be friends but they are only looking for avenues to feast on the feud prolonging between them.
My beloved reader, please examine your life to identify those feuds that involves you and others. Watch for their motive. Some may be sincere in their dealings but certain people may be looking for an opportunity to feast on feud between you and others. Watch!
