GALATIANS 5:22-24
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.
Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
The fruit of the spirit represents the results of the Holy Spirit on people's lives. It is the fruit of the vine. we are the vine that God lovingly chastens and transforms with His word and His Spirit; we will find our rest within His heart.
The fruit will manifest in our lives when we choose to obey Him, listen to His word, and allow the Holy Spirit to do His work in our hearts and minds. Do you feel love that flows into compassion for yourself and for others that you meet everyday?
Is there joy in your heart when you think about God's love and provision for you, where there is no fear for the future, but an anticipation of the day when you will live in His presence forever and ever? Does peace flow from your heart when you find yourself in tough situations, when there is pain and suffering, when there seems to be no way out of your problems?
Do you find yourself filled with compassion and kindness toward others, even others that may not show kindness and compassion to you? Does God's love touch your heart so that you will have a willingness to do the right things, to obey the voice of the Lord that rises in your heart? When you are His child, being good and doing good things come naturally.
His love inspires us to be faithful, to give praise to His name, and to give our whole heart to Him. We find that we are patient and gentle toward others, and we are willing to give of ourselves when necessary. When under pressure, or when we are tempted to do some things that we know are not the right things to do, it is His Spirit that helps us to learn how to say no; we cannot do it by ourselves.
When we find the self control to live according to His standards and not our own, that is a sign of real spiritual growth. If we have these fruits of the Spirit, we can rest in Him with the knowledge that we are living just as Jesus wants us to live. It is our pleasure and honor to live for Him.
What if you find that you do not have the fruits of the spirit in your personal life? That is when you must come to the Lord Jesus, repent of your sins, and then ask Jesus to come into your heart. He is the only way to eternal life and salvation. He gives us His power and authority to do what seems impossible by man's standards. Never underestimate the power of God's love for you, and His grace and mercy in your life!
