How Christ Represents Lady Wisdom in Proverbs 8
by lloyd claridge The Lord brought me forth as the first of his works, before his deeds of old; I was formed long ages ago, at the very beginning, when the world came to be. When there were no watery depths, I was given birth, when there were no springs overflowing with water, before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was given birth, before he made the world or its fields or any of the dust of the earth. I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep, when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep, when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth. Then I was constantly at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence, rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind. “Now then, my children, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways. Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not disregard it. Blessed are those who listen to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway. For those who find me find life and receive favor from the Lord. But those who fail to find me harm themselves; all who hate me love death.” Proverbs 8: 22-36 These passages are actually a description of Jesus Christ and his existence before he became incarnate on earth. How marvellous that King Solomon was able to write these words praise God! I believe this is the best description of Jesus Christ in his eternal state. It is also an apt description of how Jesus’ life is now in his glorified state as he is at the right hand of the Father always praying and interceding for us. Jesus truly does “Rejoice in the Lord always” Philippians 4:4. I particularly like verse 29-30 where he states: “And when he marked out the foundations of the earth. Then I was constantly at his side. I was filled with delight day after day.” I enjoy this because it gives us a clue into the love of the trinity between the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. It gives us a clue into love that the 3 of them share. Interestingly, The relationship and love of the body of believers in Christ is a reflection of the love shared between The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit for time eternal. It is also conceived that proverbs 8: 1-21 is also a description of Jesus in his pre-incarnate state. Even though Proverbs 8: 1-21 talks about wisdom in the form of a “she” (as Lady Wisdom) it is still widely accepted by theologians that it is describing Jesus Christ. This is because Jesus Christ is wisdom manifest. For insight into the mysteries of Jesus in his eternal and pre-incarnate state I recommend reading and meditating on Proverbs 8: 1-36. I'm just a simple guy. Lover of Christ. https://www.facebook.com/soldiersforChrist11/?modal=admin_todo_tour Article Source: http://www.faithwriters.com |
