Why You Need Determination to Push Past Resistance
by stephanie reck

Have you ever tried to achieve some goal or move towards the purpose in your life, and were meet with resistance? I know I have. I don’t believe that I am alone in saying that when resistance hits, I stop and remain right where I’m at.

Let’s face it, when resistance comes there is a fight and there are times that it appears you will lose the fight for your breakthrough. But when you become determined, no person, no circumstance, and no enemy from hell can stop you.

What is determination? The act of deciding definitely and firmly. A fixed intention to achieve a desired end.

What is resistance? The refusal to accept or comply with something. The attempt to prevent something by action or argument. The ability not to be affected by something, especially adversely.

Whatever goals or ambitions you have in life, there will be resistance to achieving them. If you are a Christian, and you desire to serve God and fulfill His purpose for your life, the enemy will oppose and resist you.

To overcome the resistance to you achieving your life purpose you will need to learn how to push through the resistance. Rest assure, that resistance will come and having your mind set will help push through the resistance.

Some ways you will be resisted:

  1. The enemy. As a Christian you will be resisted by the enemy as you follow the plan that God has for you. The enemy will use people, circumstances, and your past to resist your efforts to serve and follow God.
  2. Yourself. We can be our ‘worst own critic.” Focusing unnecessarily on your weaknesses and past failures is a surefire way to sabotage what future goals and achievements you would like to achieve. When you do make a mistake, forgive yourself, learn from your mistake, and keep moving forward.
  3. Other people. Hanging out or listening to those with a victim mentality or who seem to specialize in excuse making can be infectious to your progress and not in a good way.
  4. Your family. Sometimes your family can hinder your growth. Your family may not want what you want or have the same desires that you do. Don’t compare where they are at, what they do, or what they lack as you will get stumped in pursuing your purpose. Break out of the low-mentality generational mind-sets that keep those in you love in poverty, in bondage, and in destructive cycles.
  5. Your beliefs. What do you believe about what you can do or not do? What do you tell yourself? Do you believe there is a greatness inside of you that God put there and that only through Him can you fulfill your purpose?

How to be determined so that you can push through resistance:

  1. Set your mind and keep it set. Know where you want to be and what you want to do, and build daily on moving towards those goals.
  2. Write down your vision, your purpose and your short and long-term goals. If you don’t know what these are ask God to show so that you will not be swayed by other people and circumstances.
  3. Take shelter in the Most High when the enemy sends resistance by abiding in His presence. God will quiet your spirit and may give you strategies on how to conqueror your enemy.
  4. Watch what you speak. We all have “off” days and days of setbacks, when this happens watch what you say, forgive yourself, don’t dwell on your mistakes and move forward.
  5. Make a commitment to what you want to accomplish in your personal, professional, relational, and spiritual life and stick to the commitments that you have made to yourself and to God.
  6. Don’t quit when the resistance gets tough and seems relentless. Stand your ground and continue to do what you can do until the pressure is lessened.

Those that accomplish anything worthwhile and fulfill their purpose in life had to learn to push through the resistance. Through much discipline, dedication and commitment you can push though the resistance and live the life that has been planned by God for you.
