A Message to All Sons and Daughters
by Beatrice Ang A daughter A teenager Rebellious, misunderstood, unloved A son A father Still feeling the pressure from God Does it matter? 18 or 35 We still bicker, and argue, and cry You never listen Neither do I So why do we even try? It's not my choice To live, to breathe To call you mom and dad It's not my choice I simply am--- Why am I never enough? I learned because I love you To say "I'm sorry" when I'm wrong But why didn't you? You taught me all those Jesus songs I thought when I got married I would be free But you're still there I can't leave you You're grandma now to three And still you never listen And it hurts because you don't know I love you But do you pay attention? No You only care that you love me And think that it's enough You forgive, you're divine But I? Still selfish, still sinful Still out of line One day we fought again And as always, you cried I will not apologize You never appreciate it anyway It doesn't matter what I say But then God spoke to me Mom, Dad Your face is like the face of God No matter how long I live How much I do I can never really repay you I cannot wake up in the night To calm you when you cry To hold your hand On the first day of school And to ease your fears in life To love and honor you God commanded me to do It isn't a choice It isn't a privilege It is my duty If a man shows mercy to God Who would care? But if God shows mercy to man What blessing, what love, What infinite care! All a man can do Is stay forever faithful and true And never ever fight God again And never expect praise For doing what he must and can And so I know, Mom and Dad, That you are mostly right And if ever you are wrong I'll not argue But help Very gently, very humbly I'll guide you along This article is copyrighted 2007 to Beatrice Victoria Ang (http://www.swanknight-14.livejournal.com).
