One of the things I have learnt in life is that safety is not in any prescribed location, but where the Lord has put it. It’s not in any appealing or rationally-approved situation but where the Lord has said. When it comes to safety, vox populi is not always vox dei. Indeed, ‘the horse is prepared against the day of battle; but safety is of the Lord’ (Proverbs 21:31). ‘…thou LORD, only makest me dwell in safety (Psalm 4:8). He gives safety; He appoints safety; He decides safety. Therefore, while reasonable precautions may be a show of wisdom, it is nevertheless germane that the Lord is also involved; for in certain circumstances, caution has proved futile. No wonder people die where we label safe and people live where we tag unsafe; people suffer where we think is flourishing; and people enjoy where we think is dreary. As such, we should not always hurry to flow with the tide; sometimes, we may need to flow against the tide. There are times He may be pointing where everyone has declared unsafe. Our concern should always be whether He is treading a path with us. If He is, then we are in safe hands, come what may. If He is clearly directing us one way, He will surely keep us! He watches over His word to bring it to pass. He that keeps Israel never sleeps nor slumbers; and unless He watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain (Jeremiah 1:12, Psalm 121:4, Psalm 127:1). Therefore, if you are looking for safety in matters of residence, business, career, marriage, job, ministry or any other crucial decision, look in no other direction than where he has faced; and you will find rest for your soul.
