Sins Of Omission
by Steve Countryman

It’s the one sin that we all seem to commit everyday. It can happen anytime and anywhere with anyone. Sins of omission is when you don’t do the right thing, miss an opportunity to witness or miss blessing someone. I’ve used all the excuses from talking myself out of it to putting it off and missing it. Sometimes I’ve talked myself out of helping others by judging if the person deserved my help, attention and time.

More often than not most sins of omission happen when opportunities are missed right in front of us. It can be distractions that cause you to miss them. Having your mind on your own problems is like walking around with blinders on. You only see your cares and your troubles shutting out the rest of the world. That is exactly what the devil wants you to do. Staring at your own world shuts out everyone else and makes you ineffective as a Christian witness.

The Holy Spirit has been working with me and points out those times where I’ve blown it. Asking for anther chance seldom ever comes. A chance meeting, a complete stranger, a little passing conversation can be missed opportunities when you’re not listening with your heart.

I’ve missed more opportunities than I’d like to remember because I failed to listen with my heart. Complete strangers will say something that gives you a big clue as to what they may be facing. Having a Christ-like mindset with a heart for hearing will guide you into being that special blessing that God wants you to be!

You never know when your act of kindness, shining God’s light, to others may be the one thing that changes that person’s life, attitude, heart or mindset. You could be God answering their prayers!

“Father, forgive me my sins of omission. Holy Spirit continue to give me opportunities to be a blessing and to bless and witness to those that you have cross my path. Guide me if I should pray for them and the words to declare over them. Give me a heart for hearing your voice and those who need my help. Keep my pride and selfishness chained up and out of your way. Give me the passion, courage, zeal and compassion to step out and step up. Let your love O God shine brightly through your servant. In the powerful name of Jesus, AMEN!”
