A Deeper Relationship
by Steve Countryman

A good way to describe a close relationship with Father God would be the daily walk that Adam and Eve had in the Garden of Eden before they sinned. It was a relationship that was enjoyed and looked forward to by both sides. Nothing was hid and nothing was kept from each other in the garden.

Knowing that you need Jesus is life changing. Salvation that changes you from a sinner to a saint. It’s in your walk that you mature from who you were to being who God sees you as. He looks beyond your failures, faults and flaws and sees His Son Jesus in you. The Holy Spirit is the One who changes you from glory to glory. You no longer resemble the “old” you. Your past no longer dictates your future but God does!

Recently I’ve had a realization that my walk isn’t what it should and could be. I have learned that I need God in every area of my life. That was slow in sinking in. You grow up thinking that being self-sufficient, taking care of yourself, is what everyone should do. Then as you mature you see the results of your own self-sufficiency. You realize that the majority of your troubles and problems are from your own doing.

Running to God in time of need is a good thing. Realizing that you need God to rescue you from you and your bad decisions. But lately I’ve had to apologize to God for having to run to Him ALL the time for my problems and troubles. Again I understand that I need Him every day and I remind Him daily of that. But that shouldn’t be the foundation of my relationship with Father God. That is not the kind of relationship that Father God wants to have with me!

A relationship built on fear and panic of my problems and needs that causes me to run to Him and ask Him to rescue me is not an intimate close walk that I want with my God. A reverential fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. That isn’t the same fear that I stare at and dwell on daily. Jesus had NO fear while He walked the earth. Jesus is our example of how to live and to love. He also knew with total confidence that Father God had His back. He knew that Father God would take care of Him and watch over Him everywhere He went.

A closer relationship with Father God moves beyond “need” to “want” and right into “desire” to be with Him. That is where a close intimate relationship is formed and nurtured. It is earth-shaking and mind-blowing!

The relationship that Jesus had with Father God here on earth is the same type of relationship that Father God desires to have with the rest of His children! It takes faith to trust God to handle your problems and cares His way. That is putting your faith in action as you pray for His guidance and help. Then you can get past the childish ways of running to Him for rescue all the tine and enjoy the peace, joy and assurance that He will give your spirit along your daily walk with your Father God!
