The Rock
by Steve Countryman

Psalm 78:35 “They remembered that God was their Rock, that God Most High was their Redeemer.” Psalm 18:31 For who is God besides the Lord? And who is the Rock except our God?” Isaiah 44:8 You are my witnesses. Is there any God besides me?  No, there is no other Rock; I know not one.” Psalm 18:2 The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” Matthew 21:44 Anyone who falls on this, (rock), will be broken to pieces; anyone on whom it falls will be crushed.”

I pictured a boulder size rock that stood about six foot high and about the same size wide. This rock cannot be moved easily. This rock represents God in the natural as steadfast, unmovable, unshakable, anchored and not swayed by ANY circumstance or situation. In the supernatural it represents a refuge, a stronghold, a sure center for staying the course and an anchor in the midst of the chaotic storms of life.

Since God is our ROCK He makes available the unique characteristics of His Rock as a tool in our lives. The Rock is a way maker, a chain breaker, an obstacle remover, a barricade destroyer and a wall leveler. The Rock can remove ANY hindrances, (sinful habits, addictions, sickness, distractions, lies and deception), that interfere with the moving and flowing of the Holy Spirit in your life!

The Rock doesn’t move on it’s own but requires a believer’s faith and trust to get it started. Only with the believer’s participation will the Rock start to move. You must believe that God is able and willing to do what His Word says He will do. You must allow God to be God in EVERY part of your life. You must trust that God ALWAYS has the very best for you in mind. And you must love Him by keeping His commands.

Standing at a distance watching the Rock won’t move the Rock. Waiting for it to move on its own won’t move the Rock. Expecting someone else to move it for you won’t move the Rock. Doing “good deeds” doesn’t move the Rock. The church you attend or the religion that you belong to doesn’t move the Rock. Your lineage, affiliations, status, memberships or educational background will not move the Rock. To move the Rock requires you to put your faith into action by placing your hands on the Rock and push it. You must push with all of your faith, trust and strength to get it moving. It takes your willingness and participation to move the Rock.

Once moving the Rock rolls along steadily picking up speed. It demolishes ALL barriers and obstacles in its path. Jesus is your Rock and He will make a path where no path existed before! For “Greater is He who is within you than he that is in the world”. The Rock does what you can’t for God is made strong in ALL of your weaknesses!
