My Thoughts Regarding the 35W Bridge Collapse
by Gloria Gunderson

I've been praying this morning and God gave me some very comforting thoughts that I want to share with as many people as possible. I was praying for at least one miracle today; for at least one person to be found alive in the rubble of the 35W bridge collapse. Then, God reminded me that yesterday, He provided 60 little miracles in one vehicle. Just one minute or maybe even one second later along the road and that bus could have been back far enough on the bridge to drop into the river.

God provided a miracle in the story of a woman running under the bridge and coming across to the other side by just 100 feet and hearing the bridge start to collapse behind her.

I wonder how many miracles in our lives happen each day that we don't even know about.

I wanted to share my thoughts so that maybe I can prevent one person today from wondering, "What kind of God would allow such a thing." God is good and God is love. He didn't do this. He didn't want this.
In my life, it's been so easy to blame God when bad things happen to me. I'm not sure if anybody else struggles with that, but I certainly have. I've finally learned that He cries right along with me when terrible things happen. We may hear people say, "Everything happens for a reason." or "We don't know why now, but we might later." or "Just trust God. He knows what He is doing." One time, I even heard somebody say: "God allowed her to have cancer because she was able to share Jesus with a nurse at the hospital."

In my opinion, as well-meaning as these comments are, they are not portraying God's true character and love in our lives. Yes, we need to trust God. Yes, God will let us see good things come out of a bad situation. However, he doesn't cause a bad situation to happen just in order to show us something better later. He doesn't allow something bad to happen to one person just and only to allow another person to be brought to Him. He uses bad situations and allows good to come out of them. Sometimes, the good is being in the right place at the right time in order to share His love with somebody else. Sometimes, the good is us growing closer to Him or our character growing. Sometimes, we may never know why that bad thing happened to us. Then, we just simply need to trust God.

I've learned that I need to remember always that God loves me and that's just that. He loves us. To say: "Just trust God. He knows what He is doing." is saying that He did this bad thing. God doesn't do bad things. Life happens. People make mistakes. People hurt us. God is there to help carry us through the bad things that happen as life goes along.
It comes down to one thing: A bridge collapsed and God cried along with us.

I have been writing privately since I was a teenager. I have many writing projects started and, therefore, will end up starting to submit several for possible publishing all at once. A link to my FaithWriters website follows: http://www.faithwriters.com/websites/my_website.php?id=14662.
