THE LAMB OF GOD IN THE OLD TESTAMENT SANCTUARIES; CH- IV, PART- 5
by Dr Surya Kumar Daimari Continued after CH-IV, PART-4 CH-IV; PART-5 LIFE IN THE NEW JERUSALEM: In Rev 22:1,2, there are two things mentioned. They are ---- (1) A pure river of water (2) The tree of life. The other references are- Rev 7:17 "living fountains of waters" 21:6" the fountain of the water of life." There are also various reference in the O.T. "Rivers of water in a dry place" Is 32:2 "There is a river, the streams where of shall make glad the city of God ----" Ps 46:4 "--- the river of God, which is full of water Ps 65:9 "In that day that living water shall go out from Jerusalem." Zech 14:8 There is "the river of life" in Ezekiel (47:1-12) There is also "the tree of life" in Gen 2:9 These are all symbolically meant Jesus Christ Himself. Because, Christ himself is the "living water" Jn 4:10 "--- a well of water springing up into everlasting life." Jn 4:14 CHRIST IS THE SOURCE OF ALL LIFE: "In him was life." Jn 1:4 "God hath given us eternal life and this life is in his son." I Jn 5:11 He is the creator and sustainer of all life. Acts 17:28 The word for life is 'Zoe' which means true, divine and immortal life. This is the most essential possession which the church (every believer) can hope for when she is married with the Lamb, her Lord. The river of life in heaven is the complete picture of the life in heaven, the fullness of life in Christ. The river of life from the throne of God will bring complete healing to his people and life which is eternal. CONCLUSION From our foregoing exegetical study on the subject of sacrifice we have made so far, we observe that 1. Sacrifice was a form of worship since the beginning of creation of man. 2. Man tried to approach God and have fellowship with Him by means of a sacrifice. The system of sacrifice was also prevalent among the pagans. This practice of sacrifice to gods and goddesses was rather an instinctive character in their lives. 3. In case of the Israelite, however it was a direct instruction from God himself. It was God himself who instituted the system of sacrifice in order to establish a covenant between himself and the Israelite. 4. These evidence of sacrifices show that the giving of a sacrifice was a universal necessity to approach God in a right order. 5. It shows that all mankind is under sin and mortality. 6. No man can attain immortality by himself by his righteousness. 7. No man can redeem the life of another, nor give to God a ransom for himself (Ps. 49:7) 8. There is an anticipation of a greater sacrifice, a divine sacrifice in all these sacrifices. 9. God felt a necessity of giving himself as the supreme sacrifice to redeem man from sin and death to life, from mortality to immortality. 10.The lamb (without blemish) that was brought to the sanctuary service foreshadowed the Lamb of God, who is the Son of God, the Christ that only can take away the sins of the world. It is true to say that the manger is not the beginning, the cross not the end. The manger is the manifestation of the old and everlasting, the cross is the gate way to eternity. The lamb that was brought for sacrifice was a creature created by God, the lamb that was crucified was a lamb uncreated whose goings forth was from old and everlasting (Mic. 5:2) Jesus Himself said, "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last." Rev 22:13. Col 1;17 says, "And he is before all things, and by him all things consist." He is co-eternal, co-existent and co-equal with God. "In the beginning was the word, the word was with God, and the word was God." Jn 1:1 It was John the Baptist who first recognized this Divine Person in the God-head as the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world. Jn 1:29 The Bible also says, "Without shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin." Heb 9:22 This is God's principle which cannot be changed. But the word of God again says, "It was a shadow of good things to come---- for it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take sway sins wherefore when he (Jesus) cometh into the world, he said, sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body has thou prepared me; In burnt offerings and sacrifice for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I, Lo I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me) to do thy will, O God." Heb 10:1-7 And this is how, "By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." Heb 10:10 It is not the Lamb that taketh away the sin but the heavenly Lamb, the lamb of God that only taketh away the sin of the world. God took much pain to establish the necessity of the death of His son for the fallen man before the sinful world. It is manifested on the day when Christ died on the cross of Calvary where God has shown His Agape Love, so that we may believe in His Son, our only Lord, who only is worthy to receive glory and honor as He is our only Savior, the Christ, the only Heir of his eternal Father, the only Lord of Lords and the king of kings and that we may live with Him for ever in the eternal state in Heaven Thus, the exclusive study of the Lamb of God in the OT Sanctuary and later in the Heavenly Sanctuary reveals the wonderful providence of God for man. It is seen that God has declared His works of eternal providence through the sufferings of the Lamb throughout the history of mankind from the beginning culminated in the person of Jesus Christ. "He chose one nation, Israel and made it the means of His self revelation, gave it His word in the scriptures of the OT, Promised the Messiah through it and covenanted to preserve it and to bring it through every trial into His millennial kingdom. At the same time He broke down the middle wall of partition between Jew and Gentile and revealed the mystery of the expansion of His church by the death of Christ to include both. The theme of the whole Bible is God's plan to save His elect and set up His kingdom, in its first phase in the millennial reign of Christ and in its second and final one in the New Jerusalem. Nothing can thwart God's final consummation of His plan."#1 #1 Killer R Allan "Providence" in Wycliffe Bible Encyclopedia.
