Part II - People of Israel exiled to Assyria the Northern Kingdom
by Ethel Ashe-Frear

Continuation of Part I 'The Prophet Elijah.' The Encyclopedia Judaic states - the people of Israel disappear from the stage of history. Parallel passages in I Chronicles 5:25-26; Isaiah 11:11; Jeremiah 31:8-10. Many Bible verses are not written out completely. This will offer a special challenge for the Bible scholar to check-out my cross-references.

Everyman's Talmud - the Rabbis' were precise regarding the doctrine of the return of the lost ten tribes. "Great will be the day when the exiles of Israel will be reassembled as the day when the heaven and earth were created."

The re-gathering of Israel, revealing the lost ten tribes of Israel Isaiah 11:1-15. "And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand [key word] [again the second time] to recover the remnant of his people, who are left . . . and he shall set up an banner for the nations, and will assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth."

Additional scriptures for anyone who wishes to look them up. Isaiah 14:1; 27:12; 43:5; Jeremiah 30:10; 50:4; Ezekiel 16:53; 37:1-28; Ezekiel 16:53; 20:33-40; Hosea 2:14-23; Amos 9:13-14; Micah 3:18; 5:7; Zechariah 2:6; 3:18; Malachi 3:18; Matthew 24:31. This is not a complete list.

Jeremiah 3:12 "Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say: Return, backsliding Israel,' says the Lord; I will not cause my anger to fall on you. For I am merciful,' says the Lord; I will not remain angry forever." And in verse 18, "In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given as an inheritance to your fathers." See also, Ezekiel 37:11-12.

Looking in Jeremiah 31:8-18, starting with verse 8, "Behold, I will bring them from the North Country, and gather them from the ends of the earth, among them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and the one who labors with child, together; a great throng shall return there. They shall come with weeping, and with supplications I will lead them. I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters, in a straight way in which they shall not stumble; for I am a Father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn." See also Jeremiah 31:31.

Verse 10, "Hear the word of the Lord, O nations . . . He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as a shepherd does his flock."

Verse 12, "Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together streaming to the goodness of the Lord. . . Their souls shall be like a well-watered garden, and they shall sorrow no more at all."

Verse 13, "Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together; for I will turn their mourning to joy, will comfort them, and make them rejoice rather than sorrow."

Skipping to verse 18, "I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself; you have chastised me, and I was chastised, like an untrained bull; restore me, and I will return, for you are the Lord my God."

Cross-reference to the gathering in Matthew 24:31. "And he will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other." Parallels Isaiah 11:11-12.

Deuteronomy 30:3-20 - "That the Lord your God will bring you back from captivity, and have compassion on you, and gather you again from all the nations where the Lord your God has scattered you. If any of you are driven out to the farthest parts under heaven, from there the Lord your God will gather you, and from there He will bring you."

The Rabbis' speak of the Messiah

Everyman's Talmud - Dr. Boaz Cohen, Associate Professor of Rabbinics' at the Jewish Seminary of America states, "The Talmud has hundreds of references to the Messiah and his mission. The belief was general that the sending of the Messiah was part of the Creators plan at the inception of the universe . . . scriptural texts were studied for enlightenment. At one point the Rabbi's were unanimous, he would be just a human being divinely appointed to carry out an allotted task. The prevailing belief was that the Messiah would be a descendant of a king, and a common designation for him in rabbinic literature is the son of David.' Mention is made of a mysterious figure called Messiah, son of Joseph."

Zechariah 12:10 states, "And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on me who they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn." And in Numbers 24:17, a wonderful verse - "I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; a Star shall come out of Jacob; a Scepter shall rise out of Israel."

Isaiah 53:3-5 "He is despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He has borne our grief and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all."

Everyman's Talmud - "To hearten the people in their misery and encourage them to persevere in the face of severest hardships, the Rabbis' preached the doctrine that there will be the travail of the Messiah.' His coming will be attended by pangs of suffering in the same manner that a child is born at the cost of much pain to its mother. The night is darkest before the dawn. On the principle, the world would show signs of utter demoralization before his arrival the conditions of life prove well nigh unbearable. Another confirmed belief was the Messiah would affect the reunion of the tribes of Israel."

Isaiah 9:6 "For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." Isaiah 59:20 "And the Redeemer shall come to Zion . . . ."

Prophecy of a New Covenant

There is the writing of a New Covenant found in Jeremiah 31:31-40. "Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah - not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt. My covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to hem, says the Lord. But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people." Isaiah 59:20-21. Jeremiah 32:40; 33:19-26; Ezekiel 36:22-30; 37:15-28; Matthew 26:28; II Corinthians 3; Hebrews 8:1-10; Isaiah 53.

Ezekiel 37:16-17, 22 "Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying, As for you, son of man, take a stick for yourself and write on it: For Judah and for the children of Israel, his companions.' Then take another stick and write on it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel, his companions. Then join them one to another for yourself into one stick, and they will become one in your hand." Picking up on verse 22 - "And I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king over them all; they shall no longer be two nations, nor shall they ever be divided into two kingdoms again."

The covenants continued with David's kingdom when the Northern Kingdom went into captivity. The words Judah (Jews) and Israel are interchangeable. These are the same people. The valley of dry bones being brought back to life is another symbol for Israel. But then, that's another paper to be written.

The Jews to this day do not know. What is it that they do not know? See Part III - "Veil over the Eyes of Judah." II Corinthians 3:14 - The same veil remains in the reading of the Old Testament, a veil lies on the heart.
