Best Practice
by RobertLincoln Hancock

My father taught me a life-saving and giving lesson on the farm---"check all the fluids before operating equipment."

I discovered in this lesson a winning application for life and business---setting a goal and being accountable for my exposure daily to an authority that rings true, enhances my thinking and guides my decisions. Your mind and mine is like film---it reflects that to which it is exposed.

You may rationalize, like me, in facing a business or personal situation that real world issues are not specifically addressed in the timeless reference book like the Bible. We often proceed without the instructions ---the equivalent to a pilot not referencing his flight plan manual and check list. Neglect can lead to grief or even disaster. Imagine your world without GPS.

Recently a business friend shared a big set back from a partner decision not properly vetted with the Biblical principles regarding right relationships. The consequence of a default choice now requires a great cost in time and dollars. Default choices can also displace new opportunities that generate and liberate. The price of obedience and doing the right thing is high but the price of neglect is much greater. To live is to choose and to be intentional.

God's Spirit enlightens our minds as we study the Scripture. We discover the needed wisdom for every choice. For those who have come to faith in Christ, God's Spirit is the teacher to guide you into all truth freeing you and safeguarding you from many a pitfall. The scripture states, "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you. Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful." John 14:26-27.

God's Word renews your mind and equips you for any circumstance. He controls all the many variables. He connects the dots and brings the necessary convergence of the right people, the right circumstances at the right time for doing the right thing. If you neglect His Word, you will lack discernment and wisdom to be equal to whatever the challenge and with His protection.

What is the mind exposure that you reflect? There is plenty of good and bad filler to occupy your mind. Where is Scripture in your priorities and day? Let God's word be your counsel to safeguard your life. All the other filler can displace your spiritual discernment and dull your growing edge. Your mind, like your body, needs to be fed and renewed daily to be healthy and fully experience God's perfect will and plan for your abundant living.

This simple daily exercise will add to your well-being and "wealth." It shifts your thinking from filler to what matters--right relationships which will stand the burn test and save many a wound and grief. Invest in yourself today and discover a perspective for fulfilled living. Check your "Dip Stick" for your safety and be assured that the oil of God's Spirit is in place to preclude burn out and assure less friction and stress in your world of work as well as your leisure and family life.
