My Reality
by Steve Countryman My reality just received some much needed clarity! It all has to do with how we live our daily lives. Reading I Kings 18 and 19 tells the story of Elijah's challenge to the prophets of Baal. Which god answers by fire and sets their alter and sacrifice on fire is God. All day long the prophets of Baal called, shouted, cried out and cut themselves but to no avail. Then Elijah took his bull and cut it into pieces and placed it on the alter. He had it drenched three times with water. Then he prayed and fire came down from heaven and burnt the offering, the alter, the soil and licked up all the excess water that ran into the trenches too. I Kings 18:39 "When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, "The Lord he is God! The Lord he is God!" So all of the prophets of Baal were all taken away and killed. Later when Jezebel heard what happen she sent a message to Elijah saying "May the gods deal with me, be it ever so severely, if by this time tomorrow I do not make your life like that of one of them." Elijah was afraid and ran off to the wilderness and hid. I have read this story several times and I am surprised that Elijah became afraid and ran off. He was a mighty man of God and had just performed an awesome miracle. The clarity I received is that Elijah was a man who had temporarily lost the meaning of what his reality truly was. The reality of his natural surroundings dictated his reality so much so that he ran off in fear for his life. We have a big advantage that Elijah didn't have for we have Jesus active, alive and living in us daily. That alters our reality in a powerful way changing it from a natural to a supernatural reality. My reality is not dictated by my feelings. My reality is not dictated by my past failures and mistakes. My reality is not dictated by my faults or flaws. My reality is not dictated by my friends or family opinions. My reality is not dictated by worldly wisdom or by political correctness. My reality is not dictated by current world events or by sickness or lack. My reality is not dictated by my troubles, trials or tribulations. The natural surrounds me but does not dictate, form or shapes my reality. My reality is what I chose to believe in. My reality doesn't ignore the natural around me but chooses to believe that my God will bring me through it for my God "puts me over". Because my reality is found in my faith and trust in my God and in His Word, love and promises. It is found in His power and authority. My God forms and shapes my reality. My reality is rooted in my God who is my solid rock. My reality is founded in the One who never changes. My reality is tied to Him who tied me to it. My reality is that I am a child of heaven, a child of the Most High God and I belong to Christ. "I am more than a conquer." "I can do all things through Jesus who strengthens me." No matter what evil that men carryout it will not change my reality. My reality is that in my time of need all the resources of heaven are made available to me. My reality is to fulfill God's destiny for my life. If you do not walk in God's will and just want to do your own thing then you cannot expect to receive the FULL provisions of God. Isaiah 1:19-20 "If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land; 20 but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken." My reality is not totally there yet, but with the Holy Spirit's help it will be! You must keep your eyes on Jesus and His Word even when everything around you is falling apart for He is faithful. Let Jesus become your reality so that you may find peace and rest in the unknown of this world from a known God who is all powerful! Article Source: http://www.faithwriters.com |
