Scars
by Ramona Cook Jesus is the Only One that I can safely lay my head upon. He is the One, Who like me, has walked upon the troubled seas; having too His best of friends to hatefully reject and forsake Him. The pain; the pain that within me lies, is deep, very deep beneath the soil of time; and yet, there are fleeting moments when it breathes and grieves the pain of battered love; of love knots, now undone. Memories of abusive hands, and actions so unkind, and after all these many years, this is what I find: You, I can forgive, but the problem that I see, is that I am so embarrassed that I gave you all of me. Foolish and stupid, a child full of belief, thinking that you loved me, is now my painful grief. You are in the past. You, I can let go; but how to forgive me, of my stupidity, I really do not know. Scarred, to never trust again, I've lived, but lived alone. However, now I see, and Jesus has to me a fact of beauty shown, that He is the One anyone can trust, so I will draw close to Him knowing that He will never abuse, nor accuse, nor will He ever be, a source of searing shame for me. To Him I can give all my love with confidence secure that His vow of love for me is forever sure. Lack of worth and scars of shame stamped upon the lives of people young, and people old, of husbands and of wives, by those who have a spirit of Control; supposing they are themselves abused, they become the Abuser; to keep themselves from being used, they become the User; devaluing with despise all they say they love, they are true to only one; and clothed in their spirit of Self-Centeredness they sit upon their Throne, never once aware of all the harm they've done. If any parent reader lives in an abusive relationship please know, this is not the soil in which healthy children grow.
