Good Works
by Shakera Reid-Stewart Dear Lord, I'm so very proud of myself today. I served in Your name and volunteered my time, without even getting pay. Believe it or not, I walked right by the homeless shelter as dangerous as it is, Risking my life just to go cook and clean for miserable, old Sister Liz. I also went to the grocery store and met an old friend in there, I invited her to church next week whether she'll come or not, I don't care. I've done my Christian duty and risked being shamed, It's not my responsibility to call her do you think I should be blamed? I saw a group of children at the youth center, 4 black and then 1 one white. I have to admit, in that black neighborhood, it was a puzzling sight. I offered them some candy and tried to witness to them too, The white one still kept playing Oh well, what's a girl to do? "Those people" don't believe the things that we believe And I knew if I pursued, The child's parents might get angry and I'll wind up getting sued. Next, I went to choir practice and there was a new member in my section. I very nicely greeted her as she approached, and then gave her some direction. That is to say I directed her to the back of the soprano side, Because we have positions already established and by this we must abide. So you see, Dear Lord, I've been so busy today doing good works in Your name. This isn't such hard work at all; don't You think more people should do the same?
