Finding Home-Based Work for Moms
by Naomi Ball If you are in the same boat as the rest of us then you have more month at the end of your paycheck. If you are in the same boat as so many of us women, you want more income but you know God wants you to stay at home with your kids, so after much prayer you decided to "work from home". But what can you do? There are so many options available that it is mind boggling. There are jobs and awesome direct sales companies, fun home parties and businesses that you can do from home. How do you know which one will be successful? Success comes from serious, strenuous work. (Proverbs 14:23) Period. At most 9-to-5 jobs there is a boss looking over your shoulder, making sure you work. With a home based job or business no one is standing behind you to make sure you get the work done. You must be self-disciplined, willing and able to work hard. Proverbs 6:9-11 (Contemporary English Version) How long will you lie there doing nothing at all? When are you going to get up and stop sleeping? Sleep a little. Doze a little. Fold your hands and twiddle your thumbs. Suddenly, everything is gone, as though it had been taken by an armed robber. You must be a self starter, able to organize and manage your business and your family. Incidently, the house and family have a tendency to take precedence, and often the extended family doesn't take your job or business seriously. Working at home can sometimes get lonely, especially if you are used to working at a job. Being successful means you take pride in what you do and work hard. The first step you need to take is to decide if you want a work at home job, to join an already established direct sales business or if you want to start your own business from the ground up. Given the right kind of work, some employers will let you work from home or you can find telecommuting jobs where you do all the work form home, such as medical transcription. Direct sales companies, such as Mary Kay, generally require you to buy their products, sell their products and recruit new members. This kind of business requires a lot of work at first with little pay off but and after a while, if you keep at it, you can make a real income. Or you can start your own sales or service based business, such as making and selling soap or doing massage in your home. After you decide what kind of work you want to do then you can go on to the next step. What ever you do, you must do your homework first. Gather as much information as you can about the company. Keep in mind that people who join a direct sales company and fail to succeed at business will often blame the company, or network marketing in general. Network marketing (MLM) is legal and legitimate, so make sure any negative comments are about failures or shortcomings of the company. Then you need to decide if you need some education. For example: you have to go to school and get a license to be a message therapist, or you would probably need to take a class on essential oils if you wanted to make aromatherapy lotions, body scrubs or other personal care products to sell, and a class on how to start your own business. Or you could take a home study or correspondence class that teaches about essential oils and how to start your own aromatherapy business. Aside from actually making money, the personal rewards of being able to stay at home with your kids are awesome. If you ask for Gods help and leading, do your research carefully and work hard then you will succeed at any work at home business. Then you can get out of the "more month at the end of my paycheck" boat and into the "making money and having fun at home" boat!
