THE POT AND THE KETTLE
by Ramona Cook In my Appalachian Mountain upbringing I heard an often quoted saying, "Let not the Pot call the Kettle black;" stemming of course, from the times when cast iron pots and kettles were used in open fire cooking. The outside became covered in accumulated greasy soot from the carbon deposits produced by the fire's smoke. I find that quote coming to my mind often these days. The news media is filled with angry One Sided Law Breakers insisting that the other One Sided Law Breakers be prosecuted. I know fathers and mothers who are practicing marital infidelity and are incensed and feel betrayed when a child comes home announcing a pregnancy or a venereal disease. "How could you do this to us?" One wishes to ask them, "And which are you the blackened Pot or the blackened Kettle?" Our government is certainly in a disarray at this present time. There are those who have been breaking our laws, that seems to be evident, and if it is, then they are also the ones who want the "other lawbreakers to pay up with fines and imprisonment." Our Law Enforcers swear and lie. That is an illegal act and a repugnant act, especially when they on the other hand can't wait to prosecute Joe and Jane Citizen when they have done a wrong. I am all for prosecution of the Law Breakers, but is a "Law Breaker" qualified or justified to call someone else a Law Breaker and worthy of prosecution? Further they wish to see that the inth degree of payment is made by the others, when they try to hide their own guilt and do not confess that themselves should be prosecuted due to law breaking. There is such a double standard, and whether it is the Pot or the Kettle, it is a disgusting display of hypocrisy. Snowden is called guilty and perhaps he is, I do not know. I find it interesting however that the same News and Government persons have not one word to say about those who are lying under oath to The Congress. These high ranking persons are all for the rule of law and the prosecution of the guilty. Really? I have to wonder, "Who are you, the Pot or the Kettle?" When those who enforce the Laws are themselves lawless, we have reached the height of lawlessness. "Truth is fallen in the streets and Justice cannot enter."
