The Confusion of Who God Is
by G. Rincon We have hundreds of denominations in the Family of God. Within the family we have many divisions. There is much confusion as to the character & attributes of God, We manipulate the Old Testament with the New Testament to make it blend in a way that supports our individual or denominational beliefs. It is no wonder nonbelievers have doubts about what our faith is really all about. There are scores of issues we disagree on and create confusion and doubt not only amongst our selves but to those around us. We don't take the time and devotion to study the articles of our faith to put things in context in order and intent. One of the main reason is the misapplication of the Sovereignty of God. We divide God up into all sorts of configurations. We try to manipulate His characteristics and traits to validate our faith ideas, take for example the idea that God needs anything from us. If we are going to define God in any logical way (" let us reason together") then we must come to a point of understanding that has to have some absolutes. The world at large agrees that God would have to be the Absolute Sovereign of the entire known and unknown, there fore He is eternally self sustained. He is not bound by anything, otherwise He does not have the absolute of being God. He can and does what He pleases according to his providential will. He does not need man to explain or define His eternal authority and wisdom. He exists and transcends all things; He is the ultimate causation in reality He is beyond human understanding in His fulness, we can but glimpse into His totality. He does not need anything from us, it is the other way around completely! This is an area that gets violently confused as we use OT and NT to validate what we are trying to uphold, propagate, etc. We get to discover the reality of Him in our interactions, He remains self existent and self sufficient whether we believe or don't believe. Whether we praise or not praise. One of the most overlooked areas of out faith is that we are called to be intercessors for the faith at large. Within that calling is the revelation of our praise for His mercy and grace. Not borne out of His necessity or demand but out of our recognition of His unmerited favor towards us.
